MVP or not Bowser made himself into a very good player.  I liked his leadership on the court and his competitiveness.  When your best player leads by example your going to have success.  Jesse Reimink and Bowser are 2 players that looked liked they dedicated themselves in the summer to becoming better players and leaders and their team benefitted.

I totally agree with you Al. I saw most all of Jesse's career in a Hope uniform, he was a terrific player. Both Bowser and Jesse have shown  amazing improvement from their Freshman seasons all the way to their Senior seasons. I think that is what Hope supporters like myself like to see the most. A steady improvement over four years is really something to admire, as it takes hours and hours of hard-work and dedication to your sport.

Unlike Jesse, however, Bowser did not receive MVP. But, Jesse did garner All-American and Great Lakes region recognition, and hopefully Bowser with a little run in the tournament, can do the same. In my opinion he is has deserving as Reimink, Cramer, Vanderheide and some of the other "big" names I am familiar with in the last 5 to 10 years.

Acccording to Calvin's sports headline of today, Tom and Carrie Snikkers is the first brother/sister combo in MIAA history to receive All-MIAA first team honors in men's/women's basketball. 8-)

That's pretty cool...

Bowser and Co. are going to need to play pretty darn well especially playing a very good Augustana team at Augustana to make any sort of run in the NCAA's...not saying it can't happen and if Hope does manage to beat Augustana, they have a good shot at the Elite 8.

I'll take Hope over Hanover, although I said the same thing last year against St. Norbs

Has anyone been to Augustana before? I pulled up driving directions and it seems to spin you around once you're in town in Rock Island. Are there all sorts of one-way streets surrounding the campus?

The few times I have been there, I have gone 80 to 280 West to IL 92 east and get off at 7th AVE (the streets and avenues are confusing as heck!) This takes you right onto campus w/ no 1ways.

Re: all-MIAA team

I would have had no problem with either McClary or Bowser taking home the MVP award.  Both great players, obviously Bowser having more team success.  Also, Will narrowed the statistical gap with McClary quite a bit during league play, which seems like it should be weighted more heavily than non league games when weighing MVP candidates.

I also think that David Krombeen deserved 1st team honors this season.  I have no doubt he'll be there next year, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Overway sneaks onto the list next season as well.  He has come out of nowhere to really impress me.

Best of luck to the Dutchmen this weekend, all of us are MIAA-ers in tourney time!

HCG:  The mvp is based on the 14 conference games.  Pre-conference, and post conference games don't impact the voting.  The conference stats show 14 games for men, and 16 for women.

FWIW - I heard this morning that Augie is on spring break so their students will not be there this weekend.  I would think that has to reduce a bit of their homecourt advantage against Webster, and any possible Saturday matchups.

And in those 14 conference games, Bowser led his team to a landslide MIAA conference title with 3 games remaining, all the while averaging 21.5 ppg. From my research, he is the most deserving MVP of any Hope player in the last 5 years.

Its hard for me to even comprehend how a  team who won the conference title so convincingly didn't receive the league MVP and  at the very least another player on the first team.

Does anyone else find it to be outrageous that Hope has the same number of first and second team players as the 6th and 7th place teams in the league? Am I missing something?

The only reason I can think of is that Coach Neil was a newcomer and didn't want to step to out of bounds and demand for his players to receive more recognition at the coaches meeting, which is understandable. It would be interesting to see if Coach VanWieren might of handled things a little differently. I would be willing to bet that we would see at the very least a hope co-MVP and another player with first team recognition.

My thought was quite the contrary, I see Coach Neil fighting for his boys. FWIW I don't think David really cares what team he's being honored on, he is more excited/proud/happy that his team is moving on

I don't find it outrageous, and I can think of at least 3 reasons other than the Coach Neil diffidence theory. Mainly, I can't think of any Hope player I would put above the players who made the team. Snugs and Tanis were too inconsistent and Overway didn't even start. Who would you recommend should be taken off the teams, and who put on from Hope?

In my judgment, Hope was distinguished this year by its balance and depth, not by the fact that it had more front-line players than other teams.

I lean toward the idea that Bowser should have been MVP, and I think Krombeen should have been first team, but other than that I have no serious quibbles with the picks.
