Tom Izzo is coming to DeVos:

I'm not sure what to think of that.

It's stuff like this that helps make Izzo one of the most beloved coaches in the state. Winning helps too and it would be nice if MSU returns to that tradition sometime soon. Won't be this year though, and he I think he knows it.

I grew up in Illinois so I think MSU having 1 off year is probably forgivable.  Illinois is on year 5 or so.  Plus, if they sneak into the tournament, they still may end up in the Final Four again. Haha.

I hope MSU never wins a game in the rest of their program's existence.

I watched Channel 3 at 6pm tonight and they had former NBA star Bo Kimble on as he was interviewed before the game. He also spoke to both teams, who enjoyed a meal together prior to the game. Kimble started the "44 for Life Foundation" after his teammate Hank Gathers collapsed at Loyola Marymount and died during a game 21 years ago. He said that you never forget, but basketball, or any sport, is a great way to play through the pain and tragedy. According to the news the game will be a sell-out. You won't want to miss any of the local newscast later tonight to hear reports from the evening.

I thought it was his post game whining about Michigan running up the score Saturday at the end of the game in Michigan's seven point win???  ::)  How many times has Izzo ran it up on Michigan over the years?  And he's whining about a seven point loss?  Not that I had much respect for Izzo before Saturtday's post game press conference whining, but he lost even more of my respect with his comments he made following Saturday's game.

I well remember that situation.  After Gathers died, Bo would always shoot his first free throw of a game left-handed as a tribute - if memory serves, he never missed one.  UM was ranked #1 that year and faced Loyola Marymount in the tourney.  They made the serious error of thinking they could win the up-tempo game.  Even without Gathers, LM smoked 'em.

The first half at DeVos has been amazing. Both teams got multiple standing ovations whenever they took the floor for warm-ups.  Pre-game comments from both schools superintendents, and tons of cameras everywhere. Lawrence lead by as much as 6, but Fenville ended the half on a 12-0 run to lead 32-23 at the half. Shame these teams had to meet this early in the tourny because you they are both very good, well coached teams.

Fennville won 65-54, quite a night for anyone there I'm sure.

Fennville won 65-54, quite a night for anyone there I'm sure.

It was quite a night.

Fennville took the floor in rows of 3.  They came out arm and arm with Wes Leonard's younger brother in the middle of the front row.  Fennville only introduced 4 players for their starting line up.  When the teams came to the center jump circle to start the game, the horn sounded and the fifth player was subbed in.  Fennville's, Adam Siegel,  was was obviously overcome by emotion when he was introduced.  Xavier Grigg was the fifth player who subbed in.

Fennville looked out of sorts in the early going.  Klingler had to remove Grigg from the game because he wasn't playing well and Grigg was emotionally not in control.  Klingler was fabulous with the kid.  He pretty much disregarded the play on the floor and sat at the end of the bench with his arm around him talking to him.  Grigg came back and scored 16 or 18 points.  A credit to himself and his coach for being able to perform under those circumstances.  When Grigg was removed from the game with he about 30 seconds to go he started crying before he left the floor.  That he found a way to keep it together and play was something to see.

Adam Siegler is a basketball player.  He played a tremendous game.  He was the glue that kept Fennville together.  He led them with 22 or 24 points.

It was night of total respect by both teams and fans.  The amount of media was large.  I believe Mike O'Hara was there from the Detroit News.

Wes Leonard's parents received a standing ovation when they arrived.

Cardinal Bus provided coaches for the Lawrence team and fans free of charge.

Hope did a great job providing the facility.

I'm sure FDF will have more to add but there was so much to take in that I'm still processing a lot of it.

Can't let that assessment pass quietly through the night. I assume you are referring to the Q and A that begins at the 4:25 mark of the post game comments on the video link below. If so, how can anyone possibly conclude that this constitutes whining about Michigan running up the score  ???

Great description al...those are the things that stood out for me as well.  I'll also add that Hope's men's and women's basketball teams and volleball team took on several duties throughout the afternoon and evening, helping to supply the extra manpower needed for such a large event that was "unscheduled" until late Friday/early Saturday.  That's in addition to the dozens of students who work in the building in one spot or another who jumped in to make things work (ticket office staff, etc.).  It was  a really special night.

Actually, I was referring to the quote almcguirejr provided.  Maybe you deserve it?  Really?  As if his boy Kalin Lucas wasn't jawing right along with Morris the whole game long?   ???
