I went to DeVos tonight and watched Fennville come back and win the District Championship.  They beat Covert 51-48.  I think they were 9 points down at one point in the second half.  Fennville sophomore Pete Alfaro had 16 points and hit 2 big 3's when Fennville was making their run.  Xavier Grigg had 14.  He had a great athletic move early in the game when he looked like he was going to lay it up on the right side of the rim but a defender was there so he continued in mid-air to reverse on the left side.  I hope it's on the highlights. Covert will be kicking themselves about the amount of missed free throws.  Fennville has some excellent athletes and they know how to play the game.  They are obviously a well coached team.

This game had a more normal tournament atmosphere to it.  The fans from both sides were really into it.  I got there at 5:55 for the 6 pm door opening.  The line of people stretched all the way to the eastern edge of Hope's parking lot.

Ryan Klingler sent Wes Leonard's 8th grade brother out to accept the District Championship trophy.

Fennville will likely play unbeaten Schoolcraft in the Regional Monday which has been moved to Vicksburg High School from Constantine.

Grigg's move was very "Klingler-esque."  Loved watching Klingler play at Hope.  Loved it.

The atmosphere was definitely more "normal."  At first that bothered me a bit, but in retrospect, I think that's probably good.  Little steps along the path of recovering...

Has Bob Holtzman been camping out in Holland all week? Just saw his report on last night's game.
The trophy presentation was a nice touch.

Incredible game last night.  Never been louder at the DeVos.   :o

Who plays Klingler in the movie?   :D
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

It was louder than any Calvin/Hope game I've been at.  Another report said the 3,614 in attendance was the 2nd biggest crowd ever at DeVos.

Actor- Drew Carey

Drew Carey has a "different" look to him now that he's a health nut.  I'd go with Kevin James- King of queens, Paul Blart: Mall Cop...........

DeVos was absolutely deafening, my guess is the ability for a teenager to scream aimlessly for unbelievably long periods of time. Multiply that by several hundred and everyone gets a headache.  What an atmosphere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still cannot put into words the Flying Dutchmen's season and its painful end.  Doesn't help with Augie winning again last night.  Most everyone who commented in the past week nailed it though.

It would be nice to see this moved to WMU.

This article states Vicksburg's gym holds 3,500 and they are going to clear the gym between the two Regional semi-final games.

Schoolcraft did win their district, so its a battle of unbeaten teams Monday night.  I think Bob Holtzman is changing hotel rooms as we speak.

If you like hockey, Hope College is playing for the ACHA D3 National Championship tonight on home ice in Holland at The Edge Ice Arena.

They're expecting a sellout.

Mary Hardin-Baylor was an easier mark than Hope was, at least as indicated by the score; personally I was glad to see Augie do well.  I would hope that we'd only lose to a really tough team, and Augie was certainly that.

On another note, if both Hope teams had not lost last weekend, Hope wouldn't have been able to do all that it did for Fennville this week.  Perhaps this was not our season for some very different reasons than anyone suspected...

I too, had the same thought cross my mind as I watched Fennville play in the DeVos.  God works in mysterious ways.....

The competitor in me, replays in game that Hope should have won and parlays the Augie win into..... Hope SHOULD have played last night, and could be one step closer to Salem.  As fantastic as Hope played, as proud as all Hope fans should be, it was one game that got away.

Kevin Kooiker, Kendall Smith and Larry Martin were the officials for the Wooster/Whitworth game tonight.

sac

Sophomore Nate Robertson of Ann Arbor Pioneer had 22 points tonight for Williams including 5 down the stretch to pull away in a 1 point game.

I don't know if any MIAA's recruited him but it seems like a really good one got away with Robertson.

SBell

Nate had a fair amount of DI interest, it was he and Korey Van Dussen together on a lot of lists, but academics won out, as happens with some A2 kids.
