Tyler Dykstra, Holland Christian's talented 6-7 forward, has posted on his Facebook page that he will be attending Calvin College next year.  He played his final high school game last week and went out in style against Grand Rapids Christian, leading his team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.  An excellent way to start the recruiting season for the Knights.

Hope in God

From the 42nd Psalm
"We are told that Christ was killed for us, that His death has washed out our sins, and that by dying He disabled death itself. ... That is Christianity. That is what has to be believed."

C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Thanks, GoodKnight, for the news.  I gather that's Calvin 1, Hope 0, in this year's recruiting contest.

Perhaps Hope can even that score with some news to come (I'm privy to nothing).

Northwestern (IA) women avenge their only loss of the season, beating Davenport in the NAIA championship game 88-83 to repeat as national champs. Next up is the men's final featuring Cornerstone against defending champion Saint Francis (IN).

FDF, a Northwestern alum, gets beat to the sharing of this info?   ;D  Well done, OK.   :D

I was shocked to have scooped the former Red Raider on that one--on both the men's and women's boards no less. I assumed he was just too giddy with excitement and was celebrating--alternating between bottles of Bols oude and jonge Genever.

This is quite a pickup for KVS. I know Wheaton recruited Dykstra heavily and I saw Thunder assistant Owen Handy at one of Tyler's early season games trying to put the squeeze on the young man. The kid is not only tall (every bit the wiry 6'7" he's listed), but is also very athletic, an excellent ball handler, jumps well, and can score both inside and out. Dykstra is a versatile player capable of playing more than one position and he makes for a good recruiting class all by himself.

Great player. I've coached three AAU kids who ended up, or will soon be, in the Patriot League (and to the teams that make the NCAA), and Dykstra fits the profile of the two forwards.

Looks like I have Hudsonville coming my way for the A Quarterfinal at Lansing Eastern High School.  They'll play Kzoo Central who beat Lansing Eastern on a goal tending on the final shot of the game tonight.

Anyone have any insight into Eric Elliot's Eagles?

I'm shocked to see the Eagles reach the Class A quarterfinal game. I saw them lose to Grand Haven--Hudsonville's fifth consecutive loss--to drop to 3-7, and would have predicted an early exit for this team in the post season. They had some talent but didn't look like a well oiled machine. Obviously, Eric Elliot has righted the ship because they are now 16-9 and still playing. Hudsonville's best player is Blake Hibbitts, a kid with a very nice scoring touch. He's the son of Greg Hibbitts, who was a star at Byron Center about 25 years ago and who got a D2 scholarship (I think to Ferris State). They also have B J Van Loo, a rangy 6'6" kid with some hops, who took way too many shots from the arc the night I saw him play. Maybe Elliot has convinced B J that his living as a player would be best made closer to the basket. Hudsonville made an amazing comeback in last night's regional final against Muskegon--a comeback assisted by a Muskegon intentional foul in the final 30 seconds when the Big Reds were leading by four points. Here's the game article:

I have a feeling that MIAA teams are going to find it tough going in the paint for a few years against the "Twin Tylers".

Ah yes, celebrating got in the way of being "johnny on the spot" to post.  Truth be told, I was sound asleep when the game finished - showing my total confidence in the Big Red team.   ::)

Admittedly, they had to have a distinct advantage as far as fan support, since the women's tournament location is 45 miles from the NW campus.
