Anybody know how McClary did in the all-star game?

Tied for the team lead with 18 points (including some pivotal points when the west was down in the final few minutes) and also grabbed eight rebounds in 25 minutes.

Link to the livestats page (http://livestats.prestosports.com/odac/) is on here.

In case you also missed it, he was named second-team D3hoops.com All-American to go along with his first-team NABC All-America award.

I picked up the video of the last 7 minutes and McClary looked like . . . well, the McClary I've seen in the MIAA. Actually the pivotal points came when a technical foul was called on former Albion coach, Mike Turner, with his East team leading 74-72 (how do you get a T in an All-Star game?). Former Muskingum coach Jim Burson was coaching the West squad, came out and shot both free throws (I kid you not) and made them to tie the game. They counted them and his team went on to pull away from there. Burson is even listed in the box score for the free throws:

This is really off topic, but......

Alma lost in baseball today 4-3 in 12 innings to the University of Michigan.....

Interesting....I'm not sure what kind of team Michigan fielded but they were supposed to be out in Palo Alto, CA to play Stanford in a 3 game series this weekend starting today, but cancelled due to the high probability of rain.

Here's the UofM perspective on the game, Michigan is now 4-13.  This was their first ever meeting with Alma.

Another thriller for the Scots! Played EMU today, and lost 7-6 in 10 innings....

Congratulations to Michael McClary from Olivet for being names D3Hoops, Second Team All-American.

Mr. Ypsi

What a comeback by Michigan, but, alas, about one inch away from OT. :(

The T was a made-for-the-fans moment, as it were. It was kinda funny, anyway.

What did he even do to get the T anyways?

It sounds like a WWE moment.

Sounds like it was just staged so Coach Burson could violate the rules (no T for going on the court and pretending to be a legal player??) to make the FTs.

I realize that all-star games are not 'real' games, but this sounds like pro wrestling. :o

Dwaun Anderson announced as the winner of the Mr. Basketball award.

Pretty sure Amir Williams(Detroit Country Day ~ Ohio State) and LaDonte Henton(Lansing Eastern ~ Dayton)  had comparable numbers vs much better competition.

I realize Sutton Bay's league and district was pretty tough for that level, but this is 2 out of the last 3 Mr. Basketball's that leave me skeptical.

This is quite controversial, from what I have gathered. I'm not big on the high school hoops scene so I can't comment on the legitimacy of the award but it seems that some prefer to give the award to the senior with the best season while others prefer to give the award to the player they perceive to be the best regardless of statistics.

There are reasons why the Mr. (or Miss) Basketball award often bypasses the best senior player in Michigan. The year Carrie Snikkers finished second in the Miss Basketball voting, the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan gave it to Brenna Bankston of Frankfort, a Class D school from the northern part of the lower peninsula. Among observers of the high school scene that year there was wide agreement that the best three female seniors in Michigan were Keshia Hines (Avondale HS/U of Louisville), Cetera Washington (Kalamazoo Loy Norrix HS/MSU), and Snikkers. Bankston probably wasn't even a distant fourth in terms of talent but she won because 1) BCAM members from the northern part of the mitten (and the UP) pretty much vote as a block, and support the best player from that part of the state, and 2) many BCAM voters in the more populated areas of Michigan (especially the Detroit area) don't send in ballots and the ones who do, split their votes among several players.

Anderson is very athletic.  That's at least one more attribute than Derrik Nix has.  FWIW here's some highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4xwU_0S40c

I do think Big 10 teams will make him use his right hand.  (Nix could handle the fork with either hand out of HS)
