Ryan Nadeau is a point guard and was the leader of a Divine Child team that saw its tournament run end with a quarterfinal loss to eventual Class B state champion Lansing Sexton. Some (maybe sac?) thought Sexton may have been the best high school team in the state regardless of class. They beat perenniel Michigan basketball factory Detroit Country Day in the semi-final.

Nadeau's Divine Child squad competed in the always tough Detroit Catholic School League so I think he comes to Calvin with a pretty good high school pedigree. DC's girls basketball team won the Class B crown this year. Ryan was a member of the Class B All-State team (6th team) joining fellow All-Stater Tyler Dykstra (2nd team) in the Class of 2015 at Knollcrest. 

I spotted Nadeau at one of Calvin's games (the Hope game maybe), so I emailed Steve Bell about him. Now, I accidentally deleted the email I think (darn smart phones), but Bell spoke very highly of him. Something to the effect that he thought Nadeau was the best player on a team that otherwise would have been rather ordinary.

One newspaper report credited him with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists in a game. I thought it was interesting that a 5'11" (ish) point guard got into the double digits in rebounds.

Divine Child won their first regional championship since '92 and the man coming to Knollcrest was a big part of it. Sorry for the lack of a true scouting report. I don't watch much high school basketball, to be honest. The potential newcomers that I could go see are usually done by the time we get word that they could be interested in Calvin. The only time I went to a game to see a kid I spotted in the VNA stands didn't end up at Calvin (nor would he have had much, if any, impact in the program) so, while I was aware of Nadeau as a player, I didn't feel particularly compelled to go see him play. I regret that now, obviously.

On another note, there is a junior in the area that I saw this year that I would love to see get a crack at Calvin. I'm not enough of a scout to know how his game would translate from his current level of competition to the MIAA but I saw enough that I liked to be intrigued.

I'll get back into the swing of things.  Recently returned from a long vacation (well deserved in my mind) that evolved from 7 into 13 days.  Prior to last night's semi-s, I hadn't watched 1 sporting event, read 1 forum or message board, nothing and it was wonderful.  Sunscreen, books, beers and.....

A little recruiting buzz from the Calvin camp: 

Ryan Nadeau, the point guard for Class B quarter-finalist Dearborn Divine Child, has indicated he is coming to Calvin. 

oldknight will recall that Divine Child spoiled Hudsonville Unity Christian's quest for a perfect season in the Class B state finals at Crisler Arena in 1973.  Trivia test:  Who coached Divine Child during that state championship year?

Nadeau is on Bank Hoops Class B All State Sixth Team. Dykstra is Third Team, so KVS is off to another strong start in recruiting this year. We'll have to see how everything works out, but with strong recruiting in the rising junior, sophomore, and freshman classes, I can't help but being very optimistic about the future of Calvin basketball (then again, I probably said the same thing last year).
