The president's quote would suggest that, at least.

It could, although "learning last year that our practices might violate NCAA rules" could also result from receiving a notice of inquiry and they may have "advised the NCAA of the practices found to violate the NCAA rules" after an internal review that resulted from receiving such a notice. Who knows.

Pat Coleman

True. Well, I asked the question and hopefully they respond.

Was anyone at Alma expecting him to be?

It was my understanding last fall that his coaching was a one year thing because Smith left so late in the Summer.

sflzman

No. It was not expected. He will be around, along with his staff, as assistants for next season. He wants to coach, but he doesnt want to recruit....

Any names around? Who is interviewing for the Alma job?

sflzman

The only three names I've heard are Doug Brotherton (coaches at MMCC and is a Shepherd alum who started the Central Michigan All-Stars travel basketball program at age 20. He has recruiting ins with every school within an hour from here) Mark Denoyeles (an assistant on Charlie Goffnets staff, don't really know much history on him) and Terry Smith - yes, that one - and his background goes without saying....

I cannot see how any program, let alone a program in Michigan, would take one look at Smith.  Not only speaking of his success on the court (or lack thereof) but the player/coach relationship issues (none positive) and his "lack of commit" issues.  Not even going to start on his "little man's syndrome"......

I, for one, rather enjoyed the assortment of pelts that doubled as hairpieces -- until he started shaving it all a few years ago.

I for one would approve of any opportunity for someone on the board to use a quote from The Who,   "meet the new boss, same as the old boss"

perhaps for the first time ever, or maybe the 2nd time now. :)

I am reminded of the old saying:

"Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me" ;)
"If you are catching flack it means you are over the target".  Brietbart.

realist, I believe the saying is "Fool me once ..."  Getting fooled more than once may be a sign of low intelligence; getting screwed more than once may be a sign of low power; which is no shame, just sometimes the facts of life.  (Though not at least trying to organize and fight back, may be a sign of low intelligence. :P)

Fooled or screwed - if Alma were to re-hire TS, I think it would be a twofer

P.S. - Quote from yesterday on my John Wooden calendar of daily quotes (somehow appropriate for this conversation):

"Although there is no progress without change, not all change is progress."

Realist- your quote literally made me spit up my beverage the other day, thank you for the sticky monitor.  sflzman- are they still taking apps for the job?  If so, I may throw may hat in the ring.  My college coaching winning % isn't much lower than Smith's. Anyone want to be my assistant???
