Any word on the recruiting trail these days? (I'd like Calvin news but any news would be great) The last recruiting news I heard was that Ty Dykstra and Ryan Nadeau were going to Calvin and I'm pretty sure that news came out during the Johnson administration or at least it feels that long ago.

The 5 candidates for the Alma job start coming on campus today....

No names were recognizable.

4 from the upper midwest and 1 from the New England area.

Don't have exact names though.  :(

One of the more talented guys at the camp that stood out on that loaded scrimmage team. Kind of a poor man's Nick Freer. Hohman can hit from deep and finish above the rim.

Not sure if this has been posted and I missed it, but here's a really cool "one shining moment" video from Hope

I came across something that is not applicable at the moment but could become a valuable part this board in the future:

It certainly lacks the history of our old friend but its greatness can't be denied.

Nothing against Jake, but is there a rule that says we cannot recruit anyone over 6'4"?

In their current state, the beds in the men's dorms at Hope will not accomodate anyone over 6'4".  Since FR and SO must live in dorms, the current tall guys (Holwerda, Snuggs, Ray, Elling, Slagter, Toren, and Davis) have to sleep on the floor.  This of course leads to injuries (when their roommates step on them) and stiff backs.  In a effort to address this issue, ticket prices for Hope basketball season ticket holders will be increased to $50 per game, to fund new beds.      :)  ;)  :D  ;D  :o

Sorry, but my reply is only slightly more ridiculous than the question.

Yes, it's actually addressed in the NCAA Division 3 recruiting manual (Section 16.3, page 24, paragraph 5, subsection iv):

An MIAA member institution shall, at its discretion, pursue an eligible student-athlete (i.e. "recruit") only if:

- that student-athlete has attained a minimum acceptable height of 76 inches by the end of the student-athlete's high school career, more specifically the last day of the student-athlete's regularly scheduled day of classes in his academic senior year.

- that student-athlete has been previously recruited and formally rejected an inducment of financial aid from a like NAIA or NCCAA institution (i.e. Aquinas, Cornerstone, Davenport, Spring Arbor, Concordia, Siena Heights, Grace Bible, Kuyper, Rochester, UM Dearborn, Madonna, Marygrove).

- that student-athlete has not attained, nor is projected to attain, a skill level commensurate with an NCAA Division II institution (i.e. GVSU, Ferris State, LSSU, Northland, SVSU) without at least one academically "transitional" (i.e. "redshirt") year, whereby said institution may re-evaluate said student-athlete's prospects and re-determine its commitment to said student-athlete.

- that student-athlete has not be given a surname of Dutch origin (i.e. "Vanderjonesma") and been granted the right of first refusal at martriculating with either of the MIAA's two senior institutions.

I think that covers most (if not all) of our scenarios. Feel free to look it up and see if you find anything different:

Calvin's drop can probably be attributed to not having the MIAA tournament semi-finals this year.

I do not know why, how, or for what reason the Hall of Fame Tournament game with Aquinas is counted as a home game for Hope when the game was played at Aquinas.

I also don't know why the final number does not match the MIAA boxscore calculations.

Either way, it all stayed about the same.
