Word on the street re. Alma job: Sam Hargraves

I remember a few games in which Mr. Hargraves convinced me of the existence of the "hot hand".  :)

Where did Hargraves play at?

Sam played at Calvin and graduated in 1998. As HCG's posts suggests, Hargraves could get hot from the arc. Sam has been a college assistant since he left Calvin, most recently at Dominican. His first job after leaving Calvin was at Alma so if this report is accurate the hire doesn't come entirely out of left field.

I knew he was one of the 5 they brought in, and they were very impressed, but at that point they still had two more condidates to interview.

They are expected to announce Monday.

Calvin loses a potential recruit to Ferris. Don't know what the actual interest level was, but Calvin was mentioned:

QuoteSinnaeve also visited Drury College twice and had workouts at GLIAC schools Michigan Tech and Grand Valley. He also looked at D-3 schools Calvin College and Lake Forest, Ill.

Sam Hargraves (Calvin '98) enters his first season as an assistant with the Lawrence University Men's Basketball program.  Hargraves spent the last 8 years at the NCAA Division II level in Michigan (Northwood University; 2005-2007, and Hillsdale College; 2000-2005 and 2007-08).  From 1998 through 2000, Hargraves was an assistant coach at Alma College (MI), and from 2001-2004 served as the head golf coach at Hillsdale College.  He played basketball at Calvin College, where he was named Second-Team All-MIAA as a senior, and led the MIAA in 3-pointers made with 71 his senior season. He also led the conference in 3-point shooting percentage once (48 percent) and was named MIAA Player of the Week twice.  Hargraves earned his master's degree in 2000 from Central Michigan University, in physical education with an emphasis in coaching.  He played his prep ball at Alanson High School, where he finished his career as the school's No. 3 all-time leading scorer with 1,507 points in just three varsity seasons. He was named First-Team All-State in 1993-94, when he averaged 29 points per game.

So SRH played for KVS, makes for interesting dynamics.

SH was brought to Calvin in the Eddie D. period, and his path crossed with Eddie again at Hillsdale.  Personally I would look for Sam to be much more of a disciple of Eddie than KVS.

Hargraves was also an assistant at Northwood when Trent Salo played there, and was the one who originally encouraged Trent to look at Calvin when he decided to transfer.

Just a clarification...are you using the ~ symbol as in logic equations, to signify negation, that he is not going to Olivet, or are you just being fancy?

A very similar symbol is used in many disciplines for "approximately equal" - perhaps he is going to college CLOSE to Olivet, but not quite there! ;D

Hope's schedule called 'preliminary'......other than dates and the MIAA portion, not very informative.

Alma has announced the resignation of Head Volleyball Coach/Assistant AD Cheyenne Luzynski.

She will be pursuing further education, and taking an assistant volleyball coaching job at Eastern Michigan.
