At Calvin, it would not be Scotty:Velma ratio, but more like Dirk:Ingrid

I guess that you didn't get the references:

Commander Montgomery Scott, aka "Scotty", chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise and engineering "miracle worker."

Velma Dinkley, resident brainiac and mystery solver of the Scooby-Doo gang and aspiring NASA scientist.

And I don't think you got the dutch name connection

I got it. Looks like I got your -K as well.

In the list of things not tolerated around here, whining about losing karma falls just behind tolerance of all things Dutch - especailly during Tulip Time   ;D

My son was a good enough high school football player to get more than one recruiting letter from Dean Kreps (imagine the sight of oldknight in the Hope cheering section at Holland Stadium--yikes!).

Mmmmm....that's the stuff.

Make the leap. You can do it.

Things must be lonely on the CCIW board, given how many posts you've had here lately. Mind you, I'm thrilled to see your presence, and might even recommend to you that you start choosing sides in the rivalry. I have a nice blue Hope T-shirt for you and I'm confident FDF can rummage up a pair of orange shorts. You're already getting negative karma, so you might as well do something to deserve it.

Thanks for refocusing the discussion.  Based on my count, there has been mention on this board of five Calvin recruits:

Tyler Dykstra, Holland Christian
Ryan Nadeau, Dearborn Divine Child
Josh Chamberlain, Maranatha (Pasadena CA)
Mickey DeVries, Lansing Christian (by way of Wheaton College)
TJ Huizenga, Randolph, WI

One thing jumps out at me:  only one from a traditional West Michigan feeder school!  And none of the other four is from a traditional CRC "enclave" as far as I can tell.  I would like to interpret this as Calvin and KVS being successful in having more of a national recruiting perspective, and not as any shortcomings in our own backyard.

Just looking at graduating seniors, we would have four varsity roster spots opening up.  It seems to me that on paper that Dykstra and DeVries would be good candidates to make the team and get some playing time right away.  The combo of Nadeau/Chamberlain/(returning) Rietema could fight for the other two spots.  Huizenga put up good numbers for a winning program but looks like he played in a small school division in HS.  This ignores any other spots that might be opening up on the roster, or any of last year's JV players in the mix.

Any way you slice it, it appears that it's a pretty competitive group of new faces.
That's a nice summary, Happy Calvin Guy.  Perhaps Hoop Dreams or FDF can do one for Hope?

hoopdreams

Wish I had something to add but I really haven't heard much, other than what's already been discussed.  Hope has had a lot of kids in to play opens gyms but because none/few are local kids,  I'm not positive on names (some of the current Hope players I spoke with couldn't remember their names) and I certainly won't speculate.

What I'm gathering from local AAU coaches is that families, more so than ever, are looking for scholarship money, ANY money, even if it means going to a traditionally poor program.

I will also concur that the overall talent and depth of talent in WM was awful this past season and Cornerstone has picked up a couple of the "good" ones.  I had read that FHC's guard was coming to Hope but ran into Coach George a few weeks back and he led me to believe that this was not happening? Anyone???

No to the post transferring from CMU but I believe (this is speculating) that Myrick will be wearing blue and orange within 2 years.

A few of the out of state kids can really play (2-4 varsity ready) but I can't tell you how many will end up in Holland.  I do know that the staff is really excited at what could transpire within the DeVos.

I hope to head out once the summer league starts once or twice to gain more insight.

Just used a whole bunch of space on nothing insightful........

I hate to ask. I really do. I know this is going to lead to at least two pages of attempted off-season comic relief with board regulars speculating on the true identity of other posters, asking such piercing questions as: Who among us is Luke Skywalker, Queen Amidala, Count Dooku, Obi-wan Kenobi, Emporer Palpatine, and--most importantly--Yoda? (We already know who fits under the helmet of Darth Vader). But I'll ask anyway.

So which board accurately represents the Dark Side?

Aquinas had a nice commit this week from Chippewa Valley's Nick Gregory.  6-7 I think?

I have to believe a couple MIAA were after him, I figured he'd end up D2 somewhere.

Who says that I haven't already chosen a side?

Mind you, if I have, the trick will be to keep it from being publicly revealed.

I'm curious to see if any Calvinites will match your bribe. ;)

No bribe here...your choice has already been predestined even if you aren't aware of what it is yet  ;)
