Calvin is playing Finlandia?

I can't believe you're surprised. Surely you haven't forgotten No. 387 from the blue Psalter Hymnal of your youth! (I Sought  the Lord and Afterward I Knew). Does apostasy have no shame? ;)

Kalamazoo's schedule includes a weekend 'challenge' dubbed the HCAC/MIAA challenge hosted by Trine University.  It will include Trine, Kalamazoo, Manchester and Earlham.    http://www.kzoo.edu/sports/mb/mb11-12/mbschd11-12.html

If they are doing the MIAA/WHAC challenge this year, that would make three.

Challenging couple weekends for everyone.

Old news to some probably, but the Davenport website is 'announcing' Damacious White has transfered over from Aquinas.   Would seem like a big deal if he keeps his head on straight, but then Davenport should be pretty loaded up with or without him.  Interesting anyway.

PS has anyone noticed Davenport is becoming awesome in everything?  Davenport  won the D1 rugby championship beating Harvard and UC-Santa Barbara.  They also went 8-0 vs Big 10 teams.  (couldn't beat Bowling Green twice though ??? )

the MIAA/WHAC is supposed to be in Madonna this year, but they have talked about passing it to the next in line team - Alma -  or the other team from their conference UM dearborn....

Davenport has a better "tutoring" program.

Just to lend some perspective to this, rugby has a "Premier Division" which is above "Division I".  The College Premier Division (CPD) title game features traditional national powers BYU and Cal (Berkeley).

Just wanted to make sure no one thought Davenport was becoming too awesome.... :)

+K for understanding the machinations of both US Rugby and Midwest RFU / LAUs, in addition to differentiation of Premier, Division I, and Division II collegiate tournaments.

BTW, Sac - Bowling Green is consistently (at least since the late 1970s) one of the strongest, collegiate rugby clubs (along with the service academies) east of the Mississippi.  ;)  There - got out my "shout out" to any "Poe Ditch Officers" and Zulu warriors who might be lurking.  ;D

Actually, UM-Dearborn is next in the rotation to host the MIAA-WHAC Challenge.

Olivet hosted it last year (2010).
Madonna hosted it in 2009.
Alma hosted the first-ever event in 2008.

Based on my count, there has been mention on this board of five Calvin recruits:

Tyler Dykstra, Holland Christian
Ryan Nadeau, Dearborn Divine Child
Josh Chamberlain, Maranatha (Pasadena CA)
Mickey DeVries, Lansing Christian (by way of Wheaton College)
TJ Huizenga, Randolph, WI

One thing jumps out at me:  only one from a traditional West Michigan feeder school!  And none of the other four is from a traditional CRC "enclave" as far as I can tell.  I would like to interpret this as Calvin and KVS being successful in having more of a national recruiting perspective, and not as any shortcomings in our own backyard.

I think we need to expand our definition of "traditional feeder schools." It isn't 1950 anymore. Looking at this list it seems to me that three of the five fit naturally within the traditional Calvin orbit. Only Nadeau and Chamberlain don't have Dutch surnames (technically the other three are Frisian, but only goodknight and HopeConvert care much about that distinction). Dykstra is a Holland Christian kid from whence many a Calvin hoopster has arrived. DeVries is from a CSI school (Christian Schools International), CSI member schools send many alumni to Calvin and many Calvin education majors teach in the CSI system. Huizenga attended a public high school but the Randolph/Waupun area of Wisconsin--while not large by West Michigan standards--is a Dutch enclave (Mrs. OldKnight's grandfather was a CRC pastor there prior to WW II). Huizenga is a member of the Randoph II CRC, and KVS is from nearby Waupun. I suspect TJ's future college coach knew about TJ long before any of us did.

This probably got missed by a lot of us (I just noticed it). Here's a vimeo of KVS summarizing the 2010-11 season.

Well, from what I had heard there was question to weather Dearborn (not Madonna as said in the orginal post - thanks again OC) wanted to host it - but that was as of this past winter, and I do not know of any recent news of the subject....

I looked back at UM-D's 2010 schedule and noticed they played a disproportionately large number of road games. I am not familiar with their facilities but it kind of seems like they prefer playing away from home.
