Don't know if this has been posted yet, but the Calvin schedule indicates a Friday/Saturday MIAA tournament. I would assume that's at the #1 seed.

http://www.calvin.edu/sports/mens/basketball/schedule.htm

I'm still trying to figure out this trip to the Seattle area. I initially thought this was a Whitworth tournament thing (there is a saying about what happens when one assumes) but that isn't the case according to the Whitworth schedule.

The Calvin sked does say AT Whitworth although the game is to be played at a local high school. The game against Whitman is listed as simply versus (as opposed to at) Whitman although that game will also be played at a local high school, although different from the prior night's venue. It is almost like Calvin is putting on these "neutral court" games as a host rather than simply traveling to play in an alumni pocket like we've seen before.

It's a Whitworth thing, Ziggy. Often in the past, Whitworth has scheduled neutral-site games in non-D3 locations for which it has functioned as the de facto host (paying for the facility, etc.). This is undoubtedly connected to the fact that Spokane is so far off the beaten path for D3 schools, even by West Coast standards.

One way in which former Pirates coach Jim Hayford did this was to rent a high school gym in Hawaii and then have Whitworth "host" a tournament there. I think that Whitworth did that at least a couple of times.

That makes sense but there is no other game on Whitworth's schedule to this effect than the Calvin game.

So is Whitworth "hosting" Calvin in a single game and then Calvin is taking it upon themselves to "host" Whitman while in the area?

The Whitworth game is being held at Mercer Island HS.  Mercer Island is an upscale municipality a short bridge drive from downtown Seattle .  MIHS has a rich basketball tradition.  Quin Snyder (no relation to anyone on this board?) who played at Duke and coached at Missouri is a Mercer Island alum.

The Whitman game is being held at Lynden High School (~2 hrs north of Seattle).  Lynden of course is a big CRC community, so this game would be appropriately listed as a "home" game for the Knights.

Unless they have the budget for a quick plane ride, both Whitworth and Whitman will need to bus over the mountain passes for these games, sometimes a dicey proposition in late December.

No relation, at least probably not since the Sneijder days.

We don't make pretzels, either.

This being June, and with no MIAA school looking for a coach any longer, we're in the summer doldrums on this board, with no ability to nitpick opinions. KnightSlappy has conveniently provided some relief with a provocative post on his blog labeled "The Replacements"--a post fueled by a trip to Minneapolis with his bro'. (Wonder if they took the SS Badger, visited Pat Colemen, and took in a Twins game?) As usual, KS is detailed and technical in his approach. Read, react and pick a few nits if you're looking for some entertainment.

I can confirm that of those three wonderings one was not considered, one was briefly discussed and the other was in the plans but didn't happen.

You may well be right!

Don't know about Pat, but one of the better female basketball players ever at EMU was Ryan Coleman! :D  (I hoped for a 1 on 1 showdown of the Ryans, but I think d3photography's Ryan got cold feet! ;D)

You missed out. I went 2 for 3 last year when my wife and I went to the Twin Cities. After using up a lifetime supply of carbon credits getting over the lake in the coal fired ferry, I took in a game at Target Field--a phenomenal ballpark in a very nice downtown area.

That has to be the first time ever that someone has blogged about a trip to Minneapolis and entitled the blog post "The Replacements" without mentioning Paul Westerberg.

Might I add that this is a bad idea whose time has come?
