Albion's 2011-12 schedule is here:  http://www.albion.edu/sports/mens-sports/basketball/schedule/cat/cat_id/6

They play 4 teams from the CCIW. (North Central, Carthage, Elmhurst, North Park)

That's only 23 games, so they still have room to add a couple.

The Dec 14 game scheduled with Albion does not appear on SAU's schedule........and it would have given them 5 games in 6 days.  Safe to say it's not happening.

I would think if Albion is looking for games, they would look to fill the void between Christmas and their MIAA opener.

I'm sure there's probably a tournament that's looking for a team or two last minute over the holidays....

I wasn't there but future Hope frosh Steve Wittenbach had 13 points in the Champions of Character game.  His team won the game led by "some 6-9 dude, going to Ferris".

Looks like the Calvin team beat the Hope team in last night's summer league action. Was anyone there?

I was there as was goodknight and FDF. We all agreed we are very ill people.

The first half was typical rec league ball that you see when the head coach isn't there to keep order. Mostly perimeter action with the first open look from the arc (and a few that weren't) getting hoisted. I believe Calvin's first 21 points were scored on 7 baskets. Hope did a better job of working the game inside out and Hope's guards (especially Overway) did a very nice job of penetrating and dishing. The Flying Dutchmen clearly outplayed the Knights and Calvin was lucky to only be down 41-29 at the break.

The second half was quite interesting and the game got increasingly competitive. The scoring pace slowed considerably, partly to due to the intensity of play and, I suspect, the players got a bit more tired. Summer ball leads to more lackadaisical officiating and Snikkers barked at the refs more than once for the rough play. About mid-way through with Calvin down seven, Tom stole the ball near midcourt and had a clear path to the basket. The trailing defender appeared to stumble, tried to right himself, and wound up tackling Tom just as he got to the basket. It was perfect defense for the another sport and I was glad to see that officials and players quickly intervened to prevent an ugly confrontation. I don't think the Hope player intended anything malicious but the play was rightly called an intentional foul with Snikkers shooting (and making) both foul shots and Calvin getting the ball back. The Knights seemed more invigorated the last 10 minutes and outscored Hope 18-4 down the stretch to win 71-62.

Jordan Brink seemed to carry the scoring load and made most of the big baskets for Calvin when they overtook Hope. Bunn--who appears to have spent some time in the weight room since we last saw him play--looked very good in the first half but was far less of a factor in the second 20 minutes. To me, Hope seemed to play its best ball when Overway was on the floor. I think he is Hope's best option at point.

so, basically the game went exactly as a number of recent real games between the two teams except the roles were reversed?

Is Bunn officially in the mix for the 2011-12 season?

He has been cleared to play and is working toward being able to rejoin the team come October.  It does look like he's been working hard in the weight room.  Whether or not that all plays out as planned remains to be seen.

When you say "cleared to play" I assume this means he has the necessary medical reports to play.  What other hurdles would it be necessary for him to clear to rejoin the team?  If Bunn is eligible to play this fall, and I see no reason (except priviledged information) why he wouldn't be it sure changes the complexion of the MIAA race for the upcoming season.  Granted it will take some time for him to recover from the year off, but he certainly has the talent to compete for MVP.

Like all NCAA athletes he has to be academically eligible as well.  Not sure if that's an issue here but there were references to his post concussion symptoms giving him challenges in the classroom last year too.  If he can come back and rejoin the team, a backcourt rotation of Bunn/Overway/Krombeen/Neil is formidable and definitely changes the complexion of the MIAA race.  I would view Calvin as being bigger and stronger physically across the lineup, and Hope more talented, experienced, and deep in the backcourt.

Yes. I didn't include him. I haven't looked at the numbers with him added in, but I would guess that he would make Hope the favorite to win the league.

They'll still have work to do to find replacements for the rest of the roster, but it's nice when you can add an MVP caliber player "for free".

Mr. Ypsi

Being the offseason, I hope everyone will forgive a Tigers post.

Jim Leyland had a profound message a few weeks ago (I doubt it was original, but I hadn't heard it before): "in baseball, momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher".  Never truer than today: the Mets scored 30 runs on Tuesday and Wednesday; today they faced Justin Verlander. ;D

According to secondhand reports, Phil Coke is now out of the rotation and is replaced by (d3) Charlie Furbush.
