Couple other schedule notes:

Purdue North Central will be one of the 3 other teams at Hope's Holland Sentinel Community Tournament.

Albion's Mike Turner tip-off features   Franciscan, Univ. Akron-Wayne, Grace, Ind.

Albion will be playing at the Otterbein Smokey Ballenger Classic with UW-Platteville, Ohio Wesleyan and Otterbein.

No pairings set, don't believe any of the teams had previously been announced, if so apologies.

Hard to make noise that way, unless you have friends. :)
None of my friends think a 16-12 season is worth making noise over either. :)

KS: Has posted ad nauseum over the "hot hand" issue.

"None of my friends thinks" is correct. :)

Wow...GK as the grammar police.  Must be the middle of summer.   ;) :o 8-) ;D   I heard you were getting bored...   Besides, doesn't the word "friends" denote a singular group, therefore making "think" correct?  Surely you aren't making broad swiping statements about FDF's friends in general, are you?  :-\  Discuss.

"None" is the subject, thus "thinks" the right verb.

I thinks you are correct.  "...of my friends"  is a prepositional phrase.

On a second thought, this does seem to be a debate on other forums.

Any thoughts on why Davenport U's application to join NCAA D2 was rejected?

My guess is that it has to do with facilities/finacial aid/financial model. They may not have convinced the membership committee that they have all their ducks in a row in order to sustain a D2 program.

I'm guessing the nailed the easy stuff (or else why apply?).

It's not because of a narrow pipeline, that's for sure. D2 is accepting up to ten new members a year, while D3 has capped its new membership at four schools per year.

How much attrition is the NAIA experiencing, and can they possibly sustain themselves? Seems like several NAIA-I's and II's bolt for D2 and D3 every year.

Although the NAIA hasn't stanched the bleeding in terms of schools defecting to the NCAA (particularly to D2), my impression is that the organization is managing to maintain rough parity with regard to membership numbers by drawing in new schools from the USCAA, NCCAA, etc. The fact that the NAIA just passed legislation that will allow it to accept for-profit schools as members should help, too.

But even if the NAIA survives, it's gonna look very, very different than it used to. Not only is there a big turnover in terms of membership, but the type of schools that are members is changing as well. There's fewer and fewer schools that have full-sports-menu athletics departments, and more and more schools that just have two or three sports per gender.

I was not aware that Malone and Walsh have both opted to pursue NCAA-II from NAIA-II.  They were both approved for year 2 candidacy.

Ohio Dominican and Lake Erie are joining the GLIAC this year.

I don't know exactly where they sit but I think Rochester College and Marygrove both applied to join the WHAC, and UM-Flint was said to be looking at NAIA-II when their athletics programs kicks in (probably also looking at the WHAC).  However UM-Flint has put off starting an athletics program indefinitely.

The WHAC has added Northwest Ohio and Lourdes College this summer which makes the WHAC a 10 team conference........also adds to the scheduling headaches of MIAA teams with fewer games and dates available.

Darn, might have to start scheduling more d3 in-region games.

Adrian is playing both Lourdes and Northwest Ohio this winter.  Lourdes is in Toledo and NWO is in Lima, OH.

The WHAC will be beginning conference play the first two weekends of Dec.

Thanks.  The Friday the 15th article in the G R Press was not very informative.  It did mention that 10 of the 16 schools that applied for D2 were accepted, and that the 10 are all private schools:
Union (NY), Trevecca Nazarene (TN), Azusa Pacific (CA), Point Loma Nazarene (CA), Fresno Pacific (CA), Shorter (GA), Southern Nazarene (OK), Roberts Wesleyan (NY), Young Harris (GA), Mc Murry (TX).
The names of the other 5 schools that applied to D2, and were denied were not listed in the Press.  Also no information if the 10 accepted were  first time applicats or not.
The AD from GVSU was quoted as saying earlier in the year "he is supportive of Davenport's bid to make the jump to NCAA D-II status at some point in the future".   That would seem to rule out local opposition to their membership, but perhaps it is program offerings, and finances that need to be strenghtend for future consideration.

Perhaps they can just use some of the revenue generated by the football program to subsidize the bball team. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
