According to the CMU website, Nate got a medical redshirt last year after playing only 3 games.  Missed the rest of the season due to illness (mono?).  So he's coming to Hope with 4 years of eligibility.  ;D

I met him last night and he is impressive - both his size and he is a very nice guy as well. How long till we start practice?

Did you get any insights into what prompted the switch to Hope?

Never talked about it.  His connection to Hope goes back a ways - basketball camps as a kid, parents who went to Hope.  It also never hurts when your dad played for the Dutchmen and one of his teammates was the current head coach.

Josh Holwerda, a 6'8,  4 year varsity letter earner to never start a game???

Nope - Josh was in the starting lineup as a Freshman, 12/01/09 @ Trininty.

Does Nate have a sister that attends Hope?

Benet Academy.

That's Matt Parisi, second row left, wearing a Hope shirt.

I had a bunch of stuff on Matt Parisi, which I seem to have lost.

At one point last year Benet Academy was ranked #1 by USA Today.   I'll say it was mostly due to their 6-10 Forward/Center who signed up with Wisconsin, and their lightning quick point guard who signed up with Northwestern.  Matt was the 2 guard, a defensive and 3 point specialist.   I had a nice video of him trying to defend future UConn player Ryan Boatright full of success and fail.  For having two future D1 prospects, I thought Matt had a pretty high avg points per game.

Here's an article on him from last winter......

I heard that he wants a more official involvement in leadership.

i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

Mr. Ypsi

Since double-headers have become essentially extinct, the Tigers had as perfect a day as can be had.  They directly beat #2 Cleveland, and #3 Chicago, #4 Minnesota, and #5 Kansas City also fell.  We gain a game on EVERYONE! ;D

And Brandon Inge has been recalled from Toledo - my guess is it is so he can catch tomorrow.  Poor Alex Avila has caught 13 consecutive games, which could all-but-kill him by mid-September. :P

Stephen Bell chimed in on Nate Van Arendonk's transfer to Hope on his mlive blog.

Geez, I hadn't even thought about the fact no MIAA MVP has been over 6-6 since Overbeek.  (although Vanderheide was listed at 6-7 while at Hope)

How tall was Travis DePree?

[EDIT] Found an old roster, he was listed 6-7

Wish Calvin could get a coach that worked that same line...maybe in the next year or two (Bill Sall anyone?).......on another note, I'm guessing that since Hope has gotten this transfer and from what everyone is saying that the MIAA should just give them the MIAA Championship and the auto-bid before the season starts?

Sounds like a plan.  How do we go about changing the conference bylaws to make that a reality?  One can never be too sure!  ;)

I would never say that, too much time between now and then.

Once again the Hope website is scheduling the GR Hall of Fame Classic as if it was a "classic" and not a tournament.

Friday & Saturday, Nov. 25-26, Hall of Fame Classic at Cornerstone
Friday: Hope vs. Aquinas, 6 p.m.
Friday: Calvin vs. Cornerstone, 8 p.m.

Saturday: Calvin vs. Aquinas, 6 p.m.
Saturday: Hope vs. Cornerstone, 8 p.m
.

This has happened before a couple times and its always ended up being a tournament.  We'll see I guess.

Quoting Sac: "I don't like to over-hype guys"   :)  Seems like pretty sound advice to me. :)

Quoting S Bell:  "2001"  The year was actually 2000. :) Pesky facts. :D
