I think you really have no room to gloat on a 33-9 conference record and two MIAA championships that got them absolutely no where.

How's that first tournament weekend been treating yo

I thought this a strange question, but then I remembered your season was over so you probably stopped following the game.  6-3 during our current 6 year NCAA streak.  We've had a couple tough years sure, but we were playing weren't we.  How were your last couple visits to the tournament?      :)  ;)  :D  ;D

Calvin reply (beating you to it) - "We've got 2 banners"      ::)

Hope reply (beating you to it) -- "We've got even more -- final four, largest attendance, national championship (fake), mascot most likely to give nightmares to young children..."  ::)

The bold one is definitely yours

I can't argue with FDF on that.  Happened to see "Cal the Knight" just a few days ago when my high schooler visited Calvin's campus.  (Seriously, if Calvin is looking for solutions to its enrollment dip, start by keeping the mascot away from prospective students!) Not sure if it could scare small children--doesn't have any masculine, athletic, intimidating or any other attributes one would expect from a mascot.  But for its helmet, it hardly even qualifies as a "knight".

I know this isn't the soccer board but it seems few visit there so let me weigh in on Saturday night's rivalry clash on the pitch (or the field turf) at Hope College. It really was a great game, had great atmosphere, and a boisterous but respectful crowd of more than 3500. How many schools can produce attendance like that at a college soccer match? It's a testament to the enduring power of the greatest rivalry in college sports.

Calvin won 1-0 with the lone goal coming off the foot of Nick Holtrop--just one of many products of the Randy Heethuis led soccer factory at Hudsonville Unity Christian HS--when Nick blasted a rocket from about 20 yards outside the box. Hope's fine GK Logan Neil, son of basketball coach Matt Neil, stretched out his full 6'4" frame but the ball just barely got over his fingertips and just under the crossbar for the only goal of the game. It may have been the only score but the tilt had its share of exciting moments and good play. Logan's brother, Grant Neil, is a real weapon with his ability to make perfect placement of throw-ins in front of the Calvin goal mouth. The final moments contained heartstopping action with the Flying Dutchmen seeing three straight corners turned away by the Knight defenders in the final 45 seconds of the game to avoid an overtime. Great stuff and a joy to watch.

Regardless of whether you're talking about Cal or Joust, Calvinites everywhere will feel much more warmly about their mascot(s) once they get a load of Wheaton's ridiculous-looking new mascot, a large pantomime pachyderm that CCIW fans have already dubbed "Snuffleupagus, Jr."

KS you're pin-pointing a solid conference record and IMO two meaningless conference championships as saying that the Calvin basketball program has been "successful" over the last handful of years. Well here is another side of the coin:

I think a teams record against non-conference opponents is a glaring insight into how good a team really is or is going to be. And yes they routinely beat MIAA opponents (not last year), but I feel like that last few years if it weren't for the MIAA season Calvin wouldn't even have finished .500. I am not saying Hope has dominated the non-conference at all, but I never recall seeing Hope start 1-5, 2-6 etc.

Hope, quite frankly, has dominated Calvin over the last four years. Last years Seniors Ty Tanis and Will Bowser walked out of Hope with a 9-4 record against Calvin including 4 straight MIAA Tournament Championships, all of which ended the Knights season. Talk about not being able to win when it matters, thats Calvins story.

Hope College fan support, student support, and overall attendance is at a completely different level then it is at Calvin, plain and simple.

Once Calvin finally wins the MIAA tournament and makes into the tournament I think you really have no room to gloat on a 33-9 conference record and two MIAA championships that got them absolutely no where.

I wouldn't necessarily call two conference championships "meaningless."  Student attendance is very good at Calvin as well.  KS also wasn't gloating over a 33-9 record.

But...I do agree with your other points.  I have no problem with Hope fans pointing out the advantages Hope has had over Calvin, but I hate it when Hope fans then go on about how they don't understand the criticism of KVS from Calvin fans (in which I am glad you didn't do in your post, dewcrewvet).  The criticism is because of the very points you guys love to point out (tourney champs, h2h record).  It seems some contradicting goes on in here over the past few years.

It's sounding like Calvin's roster decisions were made last night, expecting to see a finalized roster posted today. They'll be replacing 5-6 varsity spots from players graduating/leaving/injured.

Early indications (unofficially) are that Tyler Dykstra and Jordan Mast have received two of the spots. Nothing really surprising there. I don't have any other insight/information yet.

I think the point was a poke at Hope for having banners for such things, the underlying reference being that Calvin only hangs banners for National Championships, which takes up alot of space.  We don't have space for the less meaningful banners. ::)
