DIII News names Kalamazoo Sr. C Joe Prepolec as MIAA pre-season MVP and HM All-American.

Not to get WAY ahead of ourselves but if that were to happen it would be the first time since the mid 50's that the league had 3 straight years without a Hope or Calvin player named MVP or co-MVP.

I am surprised Hope is not in the top 25.  I expect them to only lose 2-3 games this year and be a top 10 team by the end of the year.

Maybe Pat can answer what it was based on.  Since Hope hasn't released a roster I don't know if its taking into account the return of Peter Bunn and the addition of Nate VanArendonk.  Based on returning players alone, they probably wouldn't get a top 25 selection based on not making the final top 25 a year ago.

It's definitely very speculative for the voters. We requested preseason info from a bunch of schools and Hope was the only program which would not commit to who was returning.

I am assuming Bunn. (Which I know is dangerous because of last season.) And I did not assume Bunn for the preseason All-American team.

Even if you don't know who is on the team beyond the first six or seven guys, that's plenty of info for us to go on, and we're doing the poll at the same time as many previous years, so I don't know what might be so different this time around.

Hargraves is good and should be able to stay here. Lackie, along with the kid from Ithaca that was 6-7 were both terrys recruits, and he Ithaca kid dropped before the season started once terry left, lackie almost did, so it doesn't surprise me he left now.

The quesion is if he went somewhere else. I know he had looks at d2 but who knows of anyones still interested...

Gotta loveniternet.

After some quick googling I found out (courtesy of google+) that lackie is attending cmu. Which means no basketball. It's unfortunate cuz he was really talented...

Obviously it's not a perfect science, but it logically follows that the better you are at scoring points and preventing points, the better your team will do.

Probably the most profound statement ever in the history of this board. :) :) :) :)

If you really believe that why are you so defensive whenever anyone posts about Calvin's less than spectacular results the past 5 years?

Please note my tag line! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

My point was that last year's 16-12 team was better at doing just that than the 19-9 team of the year before. My point is that a pure W-L record is sometimes a poor indicator of how good a team actually is.

In fact, Calvin's 23-7 team from 2006 (expected winning percentage of .639) was little better in terms of efficiency margin than last year's team was (.633 expected winning percentage). They outperformed their expected win total by about 4 wins in '06, and they underperformed by about 2 wins last year.

The fact remains most of us would prefer to see more of the 23-7 records than the 16-12 ones.  In fact give me a really sucky 23-7 team over a perfect 16-12 one. :)

We understand the point you are making, but W's are the real measuring stick.  Using effeciency numbers to cover up mediocrity just doesn't cut it. :)

You don't want me to go all Calvinistic Frisian on you. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

But it's not about "covering it up". I'd rather see the sucky 23-7 team too, but in terms of getting back to the excellent we all demand, last year's squad wasn't quite as far away as the record looks.

To reach 20 wins, Calvin will probably need to be up in the +12.0 range in efficiency margin.

Perhaps, but this old Frisian is never going to drink the kool-aid.

Albions roster is up, but like Kazoo is a single list for Varsity and JV:

Olivet's roster is also up:

You're Frisian?  I thought Frisians were hard-headed.

Michael McClary will be on the bench for Olivet again this year -- but, thankfully, as a member of the coaching staff.

I'm pretty confident Albion Fr. Brennan Ackerman becomes the first MIAA player with a listing on the IMDB (internet movie data base)
