Are you also accounting for Jordan Brink for next season? I have very high hopes for that 2012-13 campaign (not that I'm counting this one out).

I checked Calvin's season box for the last two years and FDF did not include Brink's minutes in his calculations. By my math I did come up with 13 fewer total Calvin varsity minutes than did FDF--1201 minutes from 2009-10 season and 2700 minutes from 2010-11 (excluding Brink) for total returning varsity minutes of 3901.

Guessing you have included Michael Fabiyi in the 2010-2011 data (13 minutes), and not counted the 26 minutes of varsity experience Mickey DeVries logged for Wheaton last year (26 Minutes).

You're correct FDF; I forgot about those two guys. 3914 is the right number for Calvin as you posted.

I'm just shocked that anyone in the legal profession would have a number too low    ;D    :D    :o

You'll probably be more shocked by the invoice you receive for the time spent verifying that your initial number was correct.

I'm sure FDF is grateful I'm granting him my discounted billing, reserved for select d3hoops board posters.

I see on the MIAA Master Calendar that the basketball coaches conf call is on Thu 11/3 at 9am, followed by Winter Media Day at 11am.  I suspect we will get the coaches/media pre-season poll that day.  Anyone want to venture a guess as to how the teams will be ranked?  How do you rank Adrian when they don't have their roster posted?

Hope, Calvin, Adrian, Albion, Trine, Kalamazoo, Olivet, Alma

I think, for now, you have to assume Adrian's getting the rest of their pieces back.

If we had an Adrian roster to look at I think we'd find the 2012-2013 Adrian Bulldogs will be the most experienced team returning for that season.

This is assuming a lot and of course and is way to far into the future.  Adrian only graduated one player last year, Javon Moseley who was only #4 in total minutes.  Their only 2 juniors on its roster played about 5 minutes per game each.  That team was loaded with Sophomores and Sophomores who played a lot.

I have Adrian potentially returning 88% of its minutes this year

So if they can hold their opponents under 40 points per game they should be golden. They may be getting 88% of their minutes back, but they're only getting 80% of their points back. Moseley was one of the few effective scorers on a team that couldn't score.

Mosley only led them in scoring 9 times, they have kids who can step in and score.  With Adrian its about pace, efficiency and playing defensive team basketball much like Albion had done under Turner.

I do find it interesting someone who's team has a current two game losing streak to Adrian would discount Adrian's offensive abilities.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Does anyone know why Craig Toren is listed both on Hope's varsity and jv rosters?  I assume he is a work in progress, but is he likely to play on both teams?

Not sure of the details (and perhaps no one is yet), but he is spending at least some time practicing with the varsity, and will be playing with the jv.  I think they see really good potential in him, and are hoping to foster that at perhaps a quicker rate than just being on jv again would do.  My hunch anyway.

I think that's right. Craig is practicing with the Varsity but will play with the JV. I am pretty sure I have seen Hope list players on both rosters once or twice before in the past few years but can't think of anyone specific.

I'll take it a step further and add that having a 6-10 body to practice against another 6-10 player probably can't hurt either of them.

Adrian's offensive efficiency rating was 95-point-something last year. Only Alma was worse. There's nothing efficient about that. Adrian's defense last year was better than any non-Calvin or Hope defense has been since Trine joined the league (in fact, only 2005 Calvin, and 2006-08 Hope were better on defense overall), but still they were a middling team.

They play elite level defense, but they better hope and pray for a lot more offense if they're going to challenge for a top-two type spot in the league. Even an average offense might do it, but they're a long way from average right now.

I never said Adrian had reached an efficient level of offense, only that that is the approach they take.  Between now and 2012-2013 I think they are much more likely to have found a way to replace Jevon Moseley's offensive production.  So in other words nothing I stated about Adrian being potentially the most experienced team returning in 2012-2013 is false.

That is all.

lost in all this talk about returning minutes in the upcoming two seasons????, is the humor (at least I think it's funny...-K for sure) behind the growing frustration of Adrian not posting their roster.  If memory serves me correct, Coach White had it up before the start of the season last year.  Could this holding out be a tougue-in-cheek decision based off the premise that Hope is/and has always been so secretive about things- rosters, schedule, injuries, transfers, pre-season info, etc...

For those that didn't say a word all summer about Overway, Snuggs and Ray's injuries......

All attempts at humor aside, I'll take a team with 5 to 7 guys capable of scoring 20+ anytime.  Remember Hope often played 4 on 5 from an offensive standpoint last year and Adrian couldn't beat them with a great defensive game.

Hope now has a true inside scoring presence (hopefully) which will make them harder to defend.  May concern may be their ability the open up the floor by hitting 3's.  Krombeen hasn't been proficient, Overway doesn't like to shoot them, not having Bowser and tanis on the floor I would force Neil to put it on the floor because you can... rather than catch and shoot, i think you can force PB to put it on the floor because the paint could/should be more congested and you know once he puts it on the floor he's looking to score not distribute.... How big of a role will Wittenbach play because he CAN shoot it and shoot it well.  It will be interesting

Hope Plays, Hope Wins!!!!  Good luck tonight!!!!!

They must be implementing a strategy around the three point shot. I'm pretty sure you have to get inside the arc to actually be in Indiana.

Didn't you hear - since Hope beat Trine in football this year, Angola has now become part of Michigan.  To the victor go the spoils
