I can never keep straight the rules by calendar dates: is Hope/WMU an official game for both teams, or an exhibition for either?

I'm quite sure it's an "Official" game for both teams.

Will you be making the trip. I'm sure I have some Orange that you can borrow!!!!

Thanks for the offer (though I can't make it), but I have a genuine Hope College long-sleeve t-shirt, compliments of formerd3db!  He came up to visit me at my campsite a few miles SE of Alma before the IWU @ Alma fball game.  His gracious gift caught me by surprise, and I had nothing to offer in return except my thoroughly sweat-stained IWU cap - he declined! 8-)

Would/should/could KVS pull Snikkers from the starting lineup?

I might be willing to entertain Rietema, DeBoer, Vallie, DeVries, and Kruis for a game to see how it plays out. Those five have yet to see the floor together this year.

I wasn't able to see any of the games this weekend, but from the radio broadcast, it sounded like too many forced shots/dribbles through triple teams from Tom. It's cool that he scored 26 points this weekend, but it's not cool that it took him 24 shots to do it.

It's also not cool that after grabbing 30 rebounds in Calvin's first four games, Tom snared a grand total of two boards in 47 minutes of action this weekend. ???

KnightSlappy,

As I watched the 2nd half of Calvin's game Saturday night I was very impressed with the strength and athleticism of Tyler Kruis and Tom Snikkers.  They reminded me of great Hope teams of yesteryear (Gugino/Elliott, Bosma/Holstege) that featured both a strong and coordinated 6' 9" center and a guard who married (as does David Krombeen) athleticism with ballet.  Knowing that this inside/outside combo for Calvin has two more years, I'd be have more optimism for Calvin than do some Calvin posters (and more fear than do some Hope posters).

But speaking of putting Snikkers on the bench, that's precisely what KVS did with the game on the line and one minute to go--and there he sat the rest of the game, with Kruis joining him with half a minute to go.  Was there a story to that?  (I presume KVS had his reason.)

Tuesday, November 29
Adrian at St. Francis, Ind., 7 p.m.

MIAA.org is showing this game as St. Francis, Ind.......Adrian is playing NAIA I outfit St. Francis, IL.  A return trip for last years matchup at Adrian.

St. Francis,In is playing Spring Arbor the same night.......that would have been awkward.

Albion at Anderson tonight.

So far Anderson has played two MIAA foes.

Anderson 73 Calvin 60
Olivet 85 Olivet 77 OT

The Ravens are 2-3, all vs D3's, their other win was a 2 point win over North Park.  They have 13 underclassmen on the roster.

If you like to hedge your bets, it would have been smart to put your money on Olivet in that 85-77 tussle. ;)

Given how Olivet had played up to that game, I'm not sure a betting man would have even taken that bet.

Anderson  81  Albion 63

Looks like a pretty comfortable win for AU,  Kolin Kazan 30, Anthony Wash 10

I thought about writing this post after the Heidelberg game. But Albion's crazy come back to win made me hold off. Bit after their game at Anderson tonight I've reached the conclusion that, at least right now, Albion is not a very good basketball team. I say right now because Jody May is a good coach, and this team is very young and several players have the potential of improving greatly as the season progresses. But the fact of the matter is that the Britons just don't do many things well.

They shoot the ball well

They don't shoot from long range

They don't hold onto the ball

They don't play particularly good defense

And they don't rebound the ball

The Brits usually play 11-12 players, but of those 12, only Kolin Kazen is anything resembling a consistent scoring threat. With Anthony Wash being a secondary option at best.

The one thing Albion does seem to do well is shoot free throws, which might keep them in games in the league season. But based on their performance thus far. It's hard to see how Albion will score enough when their defense is being eviscerated by any solid forward, which Hope, Calvin, and Adrian have plenty of, not to mention Kalamazoo's Joe Prepolec.

In short, Albion has a lot of improvements to make in order to be competitive in the league. Making those improvements isn't an impossibility, but it's not a certainty either.
