Case Western 79   Kalamazoo 76

K loses a tough close game, largest lead for CW was 9 I think.  Case hit a 3 with about 1 min to play to break a tie, K missed theirs on the next possession, from there CWRU made all their FTs  but 1. That one miss allowed K to inbound the ball with 3.8 seconds left needing a 3 to tie, but Joe Prepolec's 25 footer missed.

Joe Prepolec 27, Mark Ghafari 13, Eric Fishman 12, Grant Carey 11

Hope moves to #18 in the latest poll, gaining over 80 votes. Their next opponent, Marietta, moves to #9.

This would have been a nice win for the league -- one of those 'toss up' games.

I think the MIAA is now 12-10 in regional play with 10 to 12 games left (depending on how tournaments play out).

Defiance at Adrian, Wednesday, 6 PM -- 'toss up'
Bethanay at Olivet, Thursday, 7 PM -- 'loss'
Trine at Heidelberg, Saturday, 3 PM -- 'should win'

Franklin at Trine, Monday, Dec 19, 7 PM -- 'should win'
Finlandia at Olivet, Tuesday, Dec 20, 7 PM -- 'loss'
Albion at North Park, Tuesday, Dec 20, 7:30 PM -- 'toss up'
Finlandia at Alma, Wednesday, Dec 21, 7:30 PM -- 'toss up'

Albion vs. Ohio Wesleyan, Wednesday, Dec 28, 3:00 PM -- 'loss'
(Albion at Otterbein, Thursday, Dec 29, TBA -- 'toss up') -- possible tournament matchup
Marietta at Hope, Thursday, Dec 29. 8 PM -- 'toss up'
(Trine at. Defiance, Friday, Dec 30, tba -- 'toss up') -- possible tournament matchup
Alma at Baldwin-Wallace, Friday, Dec 30, 7 PM -- 'loss'

As Hope is gearing up to play #9 Marietta, Calvin will be out my way playing #8 Whitworth. I'm contemplating a road trip to see only my third DIII live game in almost 9 years. Also contemplating pulling out the T-shirt that Vera Grace made for me a few years ago...   ;)

But of course!

It revolves around a fan's contemplative stance in regards to a highly esteemed, national championship coach's decision making process... Simple. Elegant. Tasteful, if only slightly irreverent. I didn't think I'd ever wear it, and frankly I'm sure my wife tossed it, but I chuckled at the thought of getting a photo with said coach while wearing it.

I'll no doubt root for a Calvin win, as later Hope wins over Calvin this season will be "worth more". My daughters are starting to get old enough to sit through games, so I look forward to other NWC action in future seasons... Maybe Hope can make their way out here some day.

I'm not sure why the Albion @ North Park game is asterisked on the respective d3hoops.com schedule pages of the two schools. The schools are about 215 miles apart, and since it's interstates (I-94 and I-90) almost the entire way between Albion and NPU it's not as though there's an alternative route. It shouldn't be listed as an in-region game.

An especially intriguing matchup.

Dearest Mr. Sager,

Thank you for your concern on the matter, but the game is indeed a regional contest.

Accoring to the NCAA the schools are 199 miles apart. Boom. Roasted.

Wednesday games game:

Defiance at Adrian  --  This has been one of the match-ups I've chided Adrian for needing to win in the past.   Defiance comes in limping at 2-5, however they lost 2 games to Wooster and OWU who will both be competing for the NCAC, and their last 3 losses have all come in the HCAC to Rose-Hulman, Hanover, and Anderson.  They do have a nice win over Ohio Northern and trounced Kalamazoo to start the season.

Defiance is probably better than their record indicates.  Defiance games are a little higher scoring than Adrian likes, so it could be a battle of establishing tempo.  The Yellow Jackets beat Adrian by 16 last year, swept their 3 games vs the MIAA (Albion, K, Adrian) and have not lost a game to an MIAA school since the opener of the 2009 season to Albion, a streak of 6 games.

Unlike most schools in the Midwest, Defiance actually has Sr's, five of them, a couple Jr's and a ton of Freshmen.

**This game also starts at 6 p.m.

Albion at is not at Spring Arbor  ---  I look forward to seeing the final score posted on miaa.org for this one.   Mostly because this game is simply not taking place.  It's not on the Spring Arbor or Albion schedule.

Two things: First of all, thank you, O Dean, for alerting me to the presence of that mileage calculator on the NCAA website. The NCAA site is such a mess that I've spent hours there without even being aware that the mileage calculator existed. Second, I was wrong. This is what I get for looking at Mapquest, which gives three routes, only one of which makes sense. I thought that the sensible route was the 214-mile route, but it's actually 198 miles and change. That's what I get for not being a careful reader.

Anyway, it's all cool with me. Better to have another MIAA school within in-region distance for NPU, is what I say.

It's not often that one gets to say

to Mr. Sager. So when it happens, you really need to take the time to enjoy it. :)

We've been sitting on page 2,999 all day!

This 2.5 week gap of games for Hope is awful!  :(
