Marian now considers themselves 5-4 on the season, they've designated their IU-Kokomo wins as exhibitions.   They split in Holland last weekend beating PNC, losing to Hope 76-60.  Marian will play Olivet later this month.

Previous Marion wins:   Kuyper, Wilberforce, William Penn, Indiana Dabney University and 2 over IU-Kokomo, Purdue-North Central.    http://www.muknights.com/schedule/0/1.php

On Saturday, Kzoo will play the winner or loser of the IU-East/Judson game.  IUE is 11-2, Judson is 3-8

There, that might drum up some conversation!

Well, here's a lively and provocative quote from Christopher Hitchens, the combative essayist, who died earlier today at 62:

I have no peroration or clarion note on which to close. Beware the
irrational, however seductive. Shun the "transcendent" and all who
invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion;
prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don't be afraid to be thought
arrogant or selfish. Picture all experts as if they were mammals.
Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and
disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time
for silence. Suspect your own motives, and all excuses. Do not live
for others any more than you would expect others to live for you.

sac seems to be the only member posting worth-while discussion to these boards. these lame calvin vs hope non-basketball arguments are ridiculous. sac posts a well-detailed message about an miaa game he witnessed and y'all just keep bs'ing about who knows what.

sac, us basketball fans appreciate your breakdown and insights. please keep it coming.

as for olivet, i think they're a threat to steal a win from any non-hope team in conference play. but their lack of consistency will be a major issue and they'll find themselves on the losing end of most of their games. at this point, i'd be satisfied with a 7th place finish and thrilled with a 6th

KnightSlappy

6th place isn't happening for Olivet. If I were a Comet fan, id be thrilled with 7th.

I'm not going to dis the posts about the Hope-Calvin presidential competition, but alexj35 is right: sac's capsule analyses of these nonconference games are great. I really enjoy reading them.

Agreed.

They'll be lucky to get more than 1 win in conference play.

Thanks and thanks, nice to know someone is reading them.

Today:

I was hoping to call this '3 win Saturday' but as I type this, Kzoo is losing to Judson at the half 42-34.

Judson v Kalamazoo  -  Judson is one of the Chicago area NAIA schools that can be difficult to diagnose, they came into today 3-9 and their 3 wins were vs IU-Northwest (more on them later), Purdue-Calumet and Holy Cross College.  There is nothing here to be excited about when the best 'win' was probably losing to Bethel by 1 and Iowa Wesleyan by 4.

Trine at Heidelberg  -- Heidelberg is 3-5, those 3 wins come from 'The' ohio State-Lima, Muskingum and Waynesburg....the last two will probably be at or near the bottom of their respective conferences.   They lost to Albion early in the season by 1.  Trine won this match-up by 5 in Angola last year, this years Thunder seem a little better.  The Student Princess are probably heading for the bottom 3rd of the OAC.

IU-Northwest at Alma  ---  I think all you need to know about the Red Hawks is they lost to Great Lakes Christian College in their last outing.  They are 2-9......wins over IU-Kokomo and Great Lakes Christian.  Both of these teams haven't played in a week, this could be ugly.

As I finished typing this, Rob Passage must have yelled some paint off the wall at the half,  Kzoo 49 Judson 48

I'm looking to see how 'legit' Trine is. They look to be improved, and so this is a must win. Heidelberg is really bad.

Kalamazoo 84  Judson 83

The Hornets played a good second half, and pulled away a little late.  Then survived a mini 3-point onslaught in the final minute to win.

Joe Prepolec 23, Eric Fishman 20, Mark Ghafari 16, Joe Wilson 12......the Hornets are getting pretty reliable and consistent scoring from these  4

dreams of a 3-win Saturday stay alive.
