You could be right about Whitman but they did get a good number of votes in our preseason poll. Then they lost their opener at home to Wash U. Wash U looks better now than it did on Nov. 1 but Whitman has also lost to 4-7 George Fox.

If Calvin can shake the rust off after a two week break from action, they should be able to stay with both teams on the West coast this week.  I expect a win over Whitworth but Whitman is too hard to call.  The Pirates appear to be overrated and the Missionaries seem to lack the respect they deserve.  Both games will be a good test and preparation for league play.

What is frustrating is that a CCIW team can play Whitworth or Whitman with both games being "in-region", but Calvin travels out to Washington to face those two D3 teams and basically, neither game counts.  Whether you are in Chicago or Grand Rapids, facing a team from the Pac NW requires someone to fly!  (Wheaton played Whitman last week in San Antonio, TX and that game was "in-region.")

I still don't understand why they just don't move towards every D3 game counting.  As soon as they opened things up with the Administrative Regions, allowing Illinois Wesleyan @ Cal Lutheran to be in-region, the "minimizing travel" philosophy lost credibility with me.

Hope in the running for another D1 transfer with family ties to school?  Word just broke that Rockford grad, Ryan Majerle transfered out of Toledo.  Will Hope try to top Adrian's new pick-up ;).  Played AAU with NVA I believe....

Majerle also played high school ball with Calvin's Brent Henry and former Knight Jake Greene, if that means anything...

Majerle and Myrick ( hasn't left but he will) would form quite the transfer backcourt-duo for a program!  Jordan is averaging 5 minutes, 0.5 PG and shooting 16% from the floor at CMU, paltry compared to Ryan's college stats.  Admittedly I was never overly impressed with him in HS but that probably had to do with my thinking, pure distain,  of the WO hoops program.  Most underachieving program in WM history, regardless of decade or coach- they have had too, too many incredible athletes through those halls to accomplish nothing in basketball...ever.  I mentioned a year ago that Myrick would end up in Holland, where he could team up with his hs pals and have a heck of an MIAA career....as a distributor.

Mr. Bell mentioned GVSU for Ryan but I could see him having an amazing career at Cornerstone with Hudson....wow, wow, wow

I believe the chances that Steve Majerle's son will ever play at Cornerstone are about as close to zero as you can get.

One week from today MIAA play begins, so it's time to start up our Pick 'Em contest once again.  Same rules as the last few years.  To join, simply go to the MIAA Pick 'Em page, read the rules (just re-posted for 2012), and make your picks.

Side note:  As I was reviewing the schedule for this year, I noticed that the MIAA tournament is not a Friday semis, Saturday finals as I had anticipated.  It is scheduled as a Wednesday semis, Saturday finals (women's is Thursday semis, Saturday finals).

If this is indeed correct, I would guess the semis will be hosted by the #1 & #2 seeds, versus a weekend tournament hosted by one school.  This is a bit disappointing - since it means I can only see one of the semi-final games.

OK- so you're telling me there's a chance??.....?  YES!!!!.... I hear ya..... (movie reference)

Based on the constant religious based debates, can I speculate that Ryan's slim chances of going to Cornerstone may be religon related??  Rockford has had many former players play for the Eagles.  If money is an issue, which I thinking is not in the Majerle household, I'm sure Coach Elders would offer him a full scholly.  In comparsion to GVSU, their glory days are only 3 or 4 years past but it might as well have been 20.  There has been massive roster turnover recently, at least 8 kids have left for a variety of reasons, so it's safe to assume things aren't rosey there.  Paddock was the recruiting glue there and a constant buffer between the players and Wesley.

Saying he's "too good" for the Eagles can also be applied about Wes Hudson, an absolute steal for Cornerstone

Cornerstone is a great school, a great hoops program, especially for a guard.  Fan base sucks but I'm guesinng the seats weren't filled in Toledo.  Truthfully, many Rockford home games resemble Calvin's beautiful Fieldhouse during non-Hope games- bazinga (TV reference)

I believe going to another MAC school is now out of the question, nothing on the East side WSU, SVSU or U of D is too appealing.

I'm guessing if he went to Alma, he might see some playing time  ;)

Hmmm...guess I better reschedule the fill-in I unscheduled for me for that Wednesday night then.  Oops.

This is massively disappointing.

Earlier tonight:

Ohio Wesleyan 78 Albion 66

Lawrence Ridgell 19, Carter Elliot 17, Luke Walker 10......The story looks to be rebounding, where OWU had a 54-36 advantage but a massive 20 offensive rebounds to 8, they also knocked down 5 more treys, somewhere in those to key stats lies the margin.

Albion will play UW-Platteville tomorrow as they fell to host Otterbein 71-69 in OT.

Its going to be tough for me to do my usual previews this week, I know the following masses will be heartbroken but visitors take priority.

The league is at 39-35 right now with some pretty tough match-ups the next couple of days.  I'd be thrilled to hit 45 wins but we might have to pull a couple upsets to get there.
