Has anyone heard anything about where Ryan Majerle could end up? 3

Oh, I'm sure Hope is putting some kind of package for him right now.......

I have a new page setup on my blog as a one-stop shop for all your MIAA basketball needs come game time. Video and/or Live Stats for all league games.

I'm guessing Albion will have video for tonight's game, but I haven't found a link yet. I'll work on embedding it if I can find it.

Nice job, KnightSlappy.  Best blog I have seen in DIII.  Keep up the good work.  Very helpful and informative.

I'll cheerfully add my appreciation for KnightSlappy's excellent work on his blog and his consistently great contributions to this board.

Here's hoping the Knights can steal one tonight at Adrian and begin to build some momentum through the conference schedule.

Best wishes to all the league schools for a competitive and exciting conference season over the next seven weeks...

Erick Mack and Paul Koviak are no longer on the Olivet roster.   This is a blow to an already struggling team.

Wednesday, January 4

Hope at Alma, 8 p.m.

Hope will be looking to extend their long winning streak against the Scots, we're in No. Carolina/Clemson territory I think.  Last year Alma played well at home and led the Dutchmen by 9 early in the first half and were within striking distance until Hope put a big run together at the end of the game to win by 14.

Calvin at Adrian, 8 p.m.

Adrian won both meetings a year ago by double digits.  Pretty important game right out of the gate for both teams.  It's not often Adrian is the favorite in this game on paper but they probably are.

Olivet at Albion, 7:30 p.m.

Two teams that just struggle to score, this probably gets the 'ugly hat' award for the day.  I'm hoping Albion can't find a student to run the camera and no one will have to witness this.  Albion has lost one to Olivet each of the last 2 years, they are probably very happy to see Michael McClary coaching and not playing.

Trine at Kalamazoo, 8 p.m.

Despite the records this might be a pretty even match-up.  They split last year's games with both winning at home.

Mickey DeVries is not in the starting lineup tonight for Calvin. I didn't catch it on the pregame, but when I tuned in the implication was that he wouldn't be available tonight. Anyone have the scoop on that?

Jordan Mast is in the starting lineup tonight for the first time.

Probably has something to do with the law, Murphy's law.

way to show up in an opening conference season, first game, potential message sending game...k-zoo.  Thought this might be the season you'd be relevant......nope.  Never picking you again.

Hope is up 29 with less than 4:30 left and still has 3 starters in?  Alma with 1 listed starter concurrently?  LOVE IT.  No pussy footin around

Looks like Calvin might have caught lightning in a bottle tonight, Powell brought his scoring legs tonight.  Is snikkers shooting with his opposite hand this year, or are teams simply sagging 4 feet so he can't muscle for layups anymore?  This will be a nice W if Calvin can hang in there.

Two things come to mind after watching tonight's game:

1) Hope is GOOD

2) Alma does not believe in defense what soever. Did like the Scots energy though....

Sometimes it's just not your year and this appears to be the case with Calvin right now. The bad news started in September when their best perimeter shooter went down long before practice even began. On the west coast trip the Knights saw their inventory of perimeter shooters further depleted with Vallie (11-26 from the arc) going down for the count. Quite frankly, Jordan Mast is Calvin's only remaining outside scoring threat. Meanwhile the numbers for Snikkers and Haverdink have been horrendous. This duo has taken the most shots on the team from three point land and are 7-36 and 6-31 respectively. I'm no fan of the Grinnell system but you still have to make some triples in the modern game or your chances of winning are seriously diminished. I got home late tonight and didn't hear the broadcast from Adrian but picked up the postgame show. Apparently Matt DeBoer had the flu but tried to gut out a subpar game for him (1-3 from the floor) and Mickey DeVries didn't even make the trip from GR.

Not one score?

Hope 103 Alma 78

http://www.miaa.org/mbb/stats/1112/0104amho.htm

I was sad to see there were no free tacos for the visitors reaching 100 in the lobby after the game, so I got home and made my own.  Hope did whatever they wanted on offense tonight, and all they really had to do was attack the basket.

Its not quite true but it felt like Alma had two offensive sets tonight, run a high ball screen which was sort of effective for the first 10 or 15 minutes before Hope started to do a better job with it, once that happened Hope started pulling away.  The second half Hope went to a zone, Alma went to their second play which was to watch Hope play a zone and then chuck up a three point shot.  Hopefully its obvious I'm kidding but that's what it felt like.

34 three point attempts for Alma is a lot, making 14 is a lot and probably the most anyone has made vs a Hope team.  It was probably the only thing that kept the margin under 30.

I thought Hope played pretty well, good movement, good passing gave them lots of chances for easy baskets.  Bunn and Krombeen didn't have their best games tonight which I guess is a positive because the rest of the guys played well.  The two of them still had their moments though.  Coltan Overway and Logan Neil had really solid games, they combined for 14 rebounds each (It still amazes me a PG a good as Coltan comes off Hope's bench on any other team he'd be the #1 starter and would probably be all league).......how about Hope's starting 5 with 18 rebounds the bench with 22.  . Another good night for Josh Holwerda off the bench.  Seiler snuck in 10 points on me as well.  Snug's night probably speaks for itself, he had a big 2nd half.

The only real negative was the 20 turnovers for Hope but it was just that kind of game with a lot of fast breaks, its really hard to even be annoyed by it.

Hope: Snuggerud 21, Krombeen 15, Bunn 13, Seiler 10, Holwerda 10

Alma:  Schneider 15, Krause 12

Hope did a nice job defensively on Erickson......or Alma just forgot he was on the floor.
