For those of you who live far away (NW Hope fan, Scottiedawg, Chicago Hope Nut to name a few), I may bring good news for all of you. Tonight, Hope tested out a stream of the game. It started out shaky as the announcers arrived late, but it appears to be fairly nice. It appears to have multiple camera angles and student announcers. I do not know a date for a debut or anything of that sort, but they did do a test run and by all accounts I heard it went well.

Sweet!  8-)

Sorry to "rain on your parade" but what I heard tonight is that despite some testing tonight, any
streaming of Hope games is still a long ways off.

When is the last time an MIAA squad didn't lose a conference game? I think Hope has the best shot any team has had in a while. I know 07-08 Hope only lost at Albion.

2000 Calvin.  went 14-0.

It's getting to be a weary chore to watch Calvin's offense (such as it is) begin ballgames. On Saturday, the Knights needed more than 10 minutes to make their third field goal of the game and tonight it took nearly nine minutes to accomplish the same. You might tie tonight's change in Calvin's fortunes against Kalamazoo to some endzone sychophants who stooped to obsequious praise of Todd Geerlings for his fine work under the referees hat during the recently completed college football bowl season. Todd took the faux compliments in good cheer and the Knights offense seemed to take off about the same time. Some fans have no shame.

As m & g correctly noted, Tyler Kruis did a fine job of defending Kalamazoo's excellent post player, Joe Prepolec. While Joe did score 15, Tyler clearly bothered Prepolic and Kruis did the job mostly on his own, getting little or no defensive help on most possessions.

I find it very interesting that Calvin's offense appears to run more smoothly when they have two true guards in the game at the same time. It may be no accident that once both Rietema and Powell were on the floor together, the Knights shooting per centage went up and they had no trouble scoring points. I wasn't at Adrian but I understand that this duo played together for long stretches for the MIAA opener--just as they did tonight--and Powell has scored a combined 39 points in those two games. Powell is a bit undersized at the two-guard and playing him with Rietema leaves KVS with precious little guard backup, but it seems to be working. Maybe we can give KnightSlappy some homework and get him to run a statistical analysis of Calvin's offensive efficiency numbers when Rietema and Powell are paired.

IWU started streaming video this year...it is a "game changer" for an out-of-towner.  To be able to watch the game, vs just listen, is awesome.  And the schools that use Stretch have the handy "On Demand" feature...

7 of 8 CCIW schools now stream.  Living in Lincoln, NE I can now watch 13 of IWU's 14 league games online...pretty cool.

Here's hoping the Dutchmen join the party.  Quite frankly, the last fews years I have been frustrated that IWU could not figure this out.  Hope really ought to be able to do this.

On the season, Powell and Rietema have been on the floor together for about 25 minutes. With these two together, the Knights have scored 48 and allowed 44. Offensive efficiency is 111.6 (very good), and defensive efficiency is 102.3 (slightly worse than league average).

In the Kzoo game, Powell and Rietema played together for about 11 minutes. Calvin outscored Kzoo 19-13 for an OEff of 95.0 (not good, but ever so slightly better than the team as a whole did last night) and a DEff of 65.0 (pretty much exactly what the team as a whole did last night).

KnightSlappy

Here's some league-only efficiency numbers through three games.

TeamOEff          DEff          Eff. Margin     xW          xL
Hope109.786.623.112.91.1
Trine96.485.111.29.94.1
Calvin89.782.07.79.05.0
Adrian90.187.42.77.76.3
Albion93.898.3-4.55.98.1
Kalamazoo93.2101.0-7.85.09.0
Olivet107.7116.0-8.34.99.1
Alma93.9115.4-21.51.512.5

The expected win and expected loss numbers are from a formula I created while playing around with efficiency margin data back in the offseason. There's a very strong correlation between Eff. Margin and winning percentage.

Obviously there are schedule considerations to... consider. Adrian's probably played the toughest schedule: Hope, Calvin, and Trine (two on the road), and Olivet has probably played the easiest schedule Alma, Kalamazoo, and Albion (two at home).

Calvin currently rates as the worst offense and best defense in the league.

Awesome!  ;D

Edit: And then I read FDF's post and my new emotion is sad :(

Super Dutchmen

If my math is correct, Peter Bunn is 3 points away from 1000.  According to the box score, he scored his last points with 15:17 to go in the second half.  It would have been nice to see him reach the milestone at home.  However, he should easily be able to get this at Kalamazoo

I thought it was 6 away - but I just double checked my records and you are correct - he currently stands at 997.  Apologies to JP (I was wrong last night and you were correct)   :o

Some thoughts from Van Noord tonight:

Prepolec is physically gifted, about as quick and active as you'll find a 6'6" big man in the MIAA.  However, his ability to handle the ball and finish in traffic tonight was pretty poor.  Kudos to the Knights defense for being aggressive with him and forcing many turnovers and bad shots.

Joe's black tights and matching hairband weren't working for me last night. ::)

With a bit of Grinnell-style manipulation, perhaps Krombeen could go for 40 against the Hornets so he and Mr. Bunn can get into the club together.  Otherwise, it's very conceivable that it could happen at DeVos against Calvin.

Would love to see it happen for at least one of them at home.  Great accomplishment either way though!
