Some really nice photos from the Hope/Calvin game Wednesday.  Peter should probably get the introduction photo framed.

Based on the fact that a huge percentage of the audience is probably alums of both schools, it seems to me it would make sense to have someone on who has some connection to one of the schools.  Why don't they alternate having the color commentator be a former player or coach.  How great would it be to have Glenn Van Wieren or Ed Douma on there.  As with any school rivalry games...if you don't have a connection, you are not going to fully understand and appreciate it.

I think WGVU should hire Aaron Coyle, the Trine announcer, to do the play by play.  By far the best announcer in the MIAA, unbiased and does his homework.  If you haven't listened to him do play-by-play, you are missing out.  Next time your team plays at Trine, try their broadcast instead.  Very professional.  There is no excuse for what we had Wednesday night.

K2000:  You can look at all the stats you like, but you are still talking about a 7-9 Calvin team.  Even KVS admits that "this team isn't where he expected it to be".  I am curious where exactly he expected this team to be, and that makes me ask WHY hasn't he gotten it there?
We have already heard enough excuses.

The slide that Calvin is experiencing did not start with the injury to Brink, or Mantel leaving the team or the academic problems several players have encountered.  Ponder the following chart:

Calvin performance:
Preconference games:                            Season
2011-2012    5-6                                   7-9       YTD
2010-2011    5-6                                   16-12
2009-2010    5-6                                   19-9
2008-2009    5-5                                   19-8
2007-2008    5-5                                   16-11

Over 5 years Calvin has won only 25 of 53 pre-conference games or 47%.
Including the ytd numbers Calvin has won 77 of 126 games or just a tad over 61%.
No matter how you massage it those numbers are average at best, and reflect average coaching.

Knightslappy is right that Calvin fans have had higher expectations for our team for years now.  That makes us average, as most team's fans have high expectations for their teams.

Personally I find the above results to be both offensive and embarrassing to the college, and to it's fans.   I am not saying that we have to win every game every year, or go to the NCAA's every year, but I think we have the right to expect a good team with good coaching representing the college every year (just like what we seem to be getting from most sports played at Calvin).  I am voicing my displeasure here.  Others are voicing their displeasure by not going to watch  games at the VNA.

Next year the well worn excuses of a "young", " inexperienced" players will be gone, and hopefully the voids caused by injury and other excuses will be covered.  It looks like next year really should be "put up or shut up" time for KVS.

Unlike KS I am not so sure even a trip to the sweet 16 next year will erase the stench of 5 years floundeirng around in the wilderness.

Enjoy whats left of the season, and dream big dreams for next year. ;)

Thanks for having my back Scottiedawg...  Thanks for the pettiness Northb, my lowly public university degree did prepare me to identify the "ratio" similarities.  I'm fairly certain 13 of 17 (which is what it will be in a couple weeks) is NOT the same ratio.....book it

To lower myself, I do not forsee and another meeting this year in the MIAA tourney, so further ratio analysis will have to wait until next January
My sincere apologies, HD; no pettiness was intended

For those of you that haven't seen it, Matt Neil was on Hoopsville last night. Among topics he addressed were the rivalry, running the table in the MIAA, and the work he is trying to do in scheduling. Very interesting interview. Starts around the 20 minute mark.

I of course picked out of that, that he wants to come visit me in the PNW with his team some time!   ;D

The schedule arguments provide nothing new that hasn't been pointed out by myself or any number of people on this board and a former coach on that very show ad nauseum for oh.....I don't know 12 years.

The most important thing to take from Matt's interview is that Hope will be playing Illinois Wesleyan for the next 3 years.  Next year in Florida, and then home and home the next two years.  There is not a scale of awesomeness that can measure just how awesome this is.  Hopefully it comes together because these are two programs that absolutely should have played each other at some point in the recent past.   I know TitanQ and I have expressed a wish to each other that it would happen someday.

Nope, that would be covered in an officiating handbook.
