We interrupt this program to bring you this news flash:

PRINCE FIELDER IS A TIGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now back to your regularly scheduled MIAA talk.

So, do they move Miggy to 3rd this year or wait for VMart to come back?

My early guess would be that Cabrera and Fielder will (mostly) alternate at first and DH this season (keeping them both well-rested), with Miggy on 3rd next year, but just my first guess.

Trying to read Leyland's mind is nearly as terrifying as reading Sparky's! ::)

I'm told that Jose Miguel Cabrera is quoted in this article as saying that he's moving "back to his natural position" of third base, but it's written in some sort of Spanish language that I'm illiterate in.

http://www.liderendeportes.com/Noticias/Beisbol/Miguel-Cabrera---Volvere-a-tercera-base-.aspx

Either player may spend a fair bit of time at DH in this coming season, but that can't be the long term plan. They're both making to much $$ to DH in the long term.

WOTS is that the organization instructed Cabrera to "get in shape" this off season "just in case" they landed Fielder/Pujols. Hopefully that means more agility. Should be a fun year.

Albion makes the list as a "Not so great college town" according to the Huffington Post

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/21/college-towns-not-so-grea_n_1221202.html?ncid=wsc-huffpost-cards-image

Albion has a fairly rich history and heritage, some really nice architecture in some parts of the town, and is one of the few cities that still has its original brick laid Main Street.

Obviously Albion's hay-day was decades ago like so many other mid-western industrial towns and has really struggled in the de-industrialization era.  I cringe to think what Albion would be like without the college.

Besides the Brooks Foundry which closed and was finally torn down many years ago, it looks basically the same as I remember it as a kid.  Without the Burger Chef though. ;)  Most of the damage had already been done.

This is a good read if you're interested in some of the things that happened to Albion.   http://www.placepromo.com/aih/story11.htm

Albion seems to disagree with the huffington post.  http://www.albion.edu/communityguide/

NVA did get a medical redshirt for last year.  He entered this season with 4 full years of eligibility
;D

Got it, thanks.

Interesting when compared to the potential redshirt for Michigan quarterback Devin Garder. Hoke has repeatedly said that they won't get a ruling until after his fourth season. I have to assume that is a usual, although perhaps the NCAA makes decisions more quickly (it is painful to even type those words in speculation) in the case of a change of institution.

I believe the difference in a scholarship/non-scholarship situation plays into this a lot.

Dang.

And as an engineering major will probably need all four years.  Dang.   ;) :) ;D ;D ;D

Didn't he take classes at Central?

As I understand it, he recently switched majors, so has some ground to cover.

I majored in engineering at Calvin graduating in '01 and was not aware that Hope had an engineering program.  Is this a recent addition as I don't believe they did when I graduated from Calvin, though that was 11 years ago now (man I'm feeling old now).  If switching majors it would make sense that he take 4 years as that would be quite a course workload without even taking into consideration his basketball extracurricular activity taking up a lot of time.  I had a similar situation (minus the athletics), went to local community college one year switched majors and transferred to Calvin and took 4 years and that proved to be a wise decision.  If he sticks with engineering I'd suspect he's at Hope 4 years and academically he'll be glad if he does.  Although that's disappointing from a Calvin standpoint  ;)

...which may be helpful to know since WOTS indicates hope to have a potential bead on a 6-8 recruit from out-of-state, who may be looking strongly at this program...could it be this decade's answer to john mantel?

Must be a big man thing, Bear DeVries and Ryan Smalligan were engineering majors too.

I want Trine's announcers for all of Hope's games.   :-\

Snuggerud having another one of those games.  24 points with 15:37 to play.

Hope's offense remains strong...54.1%

Update: Snuggs sets a career high with 28 points...and has 10 rebounds with 11:22 to go.
