Alma's grown feisty this year.

That Sam Hargraves has the Scots playing hard-nosed, smart basketball.  He's going to make a really fine coach for someone the Scots. :)

Fixed your post for you  ;D

Thanks for the help.  Sam's already a really fine coach for the Scots.  But I'll wager you a tin of Wilhelmina peppermints and a case of Blue Moon that he doesn't retire as Alma's head coach.  No offense to Alma, but I think Sam's (pre)destined to land where the lights are brighter.

Clearly, sooner or later Sam's going to end up at his alma mater.

Alanson High School.

Good one, Steve!  I'll give you this -- the Northern Lights are much brighter in Alanson than in Grand Rapids.

As previously mentioned tonight results officially eliminate Kzoo, Alma and Olivet from the MIAA's half-tournament.  Hope's win also assures the Dutchmen they will host the 1 vs 4  half-tournament semi-final.

I don't think Alma has been eliminated yet. They could still potentially win a tiebreaker over both Trine and Albion.

This is correct.   But the prospect of a tie with Trine involves Trine losing to Olivet........so chances are probably pretty slim.  Trine beat Olivet by 35 the last time.

This is the MIAA's single season leaders for 3 point shooting percentage......

BEST THREE-POINT SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
.673    Jesse Reimink, Hope, 2006-07 (23-34)
.653    Greg Mitchell, Hope, 1987-88 (17-26)
.615    Jeff Reinoehl, Kalamazoo, 1989-90 (16-26)

Cory Schneider's season is the reason I would like to see the MIAA change the criteria to include a minimum of 3 pointers attempted or a higher minimum of shots made.

3-POINT FG PCT (Min. 1.0 made per game)
## Player-Team               Cl  G   3FG   FGA   Pct

1.Cory Schneider-ALMAM..... SR 11    38    73  .521

It looks to me that there is a chance Hope could have a third player reach the 1000 point mark during this season - assuming Hope has a deep run in the NCAA tournament (like to the final 4).  Nate Snuggerud currently has 845 career points.  At his current scoring rate (16.2 ppg on the season) he would need to play 9.6 more games to reach 1000.

As I search the record books, I see Cory's mentor wasn't too shabby either.

For sure, one of the things I miss about living up there.

For arguably the worst basketball team in the state, it's funny that Alanson has given us Hargraves and Mark Keeler, and is also the hometown of Chris Hass, who will probably finish this season as a top 10 all-time scorer, but does it playing for his dad at Pellston.

Ryan Terpstra will be the color man on the Calvin-Hope broadcast this weekend.

When my brother was at Alma, he played on an intramural team with a guy named Wagonshutz (sp?) who played for the Scots for a year or two and was an all-state basketball player at Alanson who apparently scored a ton of points while there. So there's that about Alanson.

I like Terp.

They needed to shake things up with that broadcast.

He'll be fair and balanced, just like "Kookier" or, possibly, Kooiker.

Bumped into former official Dave Joppie yesterday, who is heading this week to Fort Myers for spring training at the Red Sox camp, where he serves as hitting coach for Boston's Double AA affiliate in Portand, ME.  He sends his best wishes to the MIAA Nation.

He does a nice job.  Looking forward to hearing him (after the fact, of course; I'll be there live and in person first).

I've seen you in person and I've seen you live, CM.  But rarely both at the same time!
