Full disclosure:

HopeConvert and I are fond of each other.  We golf together and drink beer together, chatting about politics, Stinger, religion, Stinger, and the basketball fortunes of the school we both attended (albeit in different decades) and the school currently employing HopeConvert.

He is a lively conversationalist, well-read in many subjects, opinionated in most matters, a doting husband and father.

In point of fact, we are distant cousins -- connected by blood on his mother's side of the family and my father's side.

So, yes, he has a deep and abiding character defect.

But I would never blame that on his mother. ;)

I will second those thoughts, with the exception of the blood relationship. To the best of my knowledge I don't have a drop of Frisian blood on my father's side and my mother was 100% Magyar, so I'm quite certain we're not related. I will add that HC is frustratingly fair-minded and rigorous in his thinking, thus forcing me to constantly revisit my premises. I once said that I wish my kids could have had HC as an instructor, though not at his current institution.

Next time I'm in W. Michigan why don't we break out the sticks? I'll even risk a lightening strike and come into Holland. We can have a nice chat and stroll on Wuskowhan. Afterwards a beer at New Holland? Yes, I admit, there are a few things I like that have come out of Holland. I'm obligated to say, of course, NHB is no Bell's.   ;)
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I can't disagree with you that Calvin would be more appealing at first glance, but maybe Sam takes pride in turning around Alma to an MIAA contender (future speaking of course) and he's another Denny Griffin, who's never flown coop back to Hope...

Sometimes its better to cut your own path than follow in the footsteps of others.

Exactly! Anyone can be a fan of his alma mater, but to be a fan of its arch-rival is positively Emersonian.

LOL!  Tried to laugh quietly as to not wake FDF, and in the process pulled a muscle.  Thanks a lot! :P ;D

Game on!  Let's get OK, GK, HC and Stinger out on the links and in the pubs this summer.  I watched Stinger many times on the hardwood, lo those many years ago, and it would be fun to observe at close range his finesse game around the bunkers and the greens.  We might manage to never run out of topics of discourse, as well.

I do like a few of the offereings at New Holland, but you are definitely correct in saying that NHB is no Bells!  Bells wins hands down!  In fact, I've been enjoying arguably my favorite Bells seasonal the past couple of weeks, HopSlam!  Mmmmm, that's one tasty IPA!  8-)

In deference to Stinger, remind me to leave my pocket copy of the Three Forms of Unity at home that day. ;)

I was planning to propose a discussion on the relative merits of the Baltimore Catechism, the Heidelberg Catechism and the Canons of Kzoo.

Enough of this Era of Good Feeling on the MIAA board. After all, we are on the eve of a Rivalry game.

I'm pleased that Hope got the No. 1 ranking as we enter Saturday's contest. It adds an element of excitement to the history of clashes between these two schools. If Calvin is to pull the upset, they need to see continued consistency of play from Powell and Snikkers, both of whom have been very good of late. Snikkers in particular could be a difference maker against Hope as he showed with some clutch play against Alma when his team needed him the most. For a nine minute stretch beginning at the 10:44 mark, we saw Tom put on display the full array of his offensive arsenal, and demonstrate how good he can be at the D3 level. Starting with two made free throws, Snikkers scored 17 of Calvin's next 23 points with a variety of penetrating moves, layups, and jumpers, capped by a runner in the lane to tie the game at 86 with 1:47 left in regulation. I know Hope's defense is far better than Alma's, but it's that kind of offensive threat he needs to give Calvin tomorrow if an upset is to occur. Tom has three consecutive double/doubles. Four would be nice.

Ah, yes, I am looking forward to the game tomorrow too.

Well ... shoot ... now you guys are making me blush. I was suggesting GK change his name to Zinger. I have to say, I was impressed by his Emerson quote. It would only be churlish for me to counterpost at that point.

And I was echo the warm feelings for Knights Old and Good. I should point out to OK, however, that the three forms of unity may well be a thing  of the past anyway.

A Hope, Calvin, Kzoo foursome sounds like a grand plan. NHBC is uneven, and their mainstays uninspiring. But Dragon's Milk is the stuff of legend, and I am also fond of the Pilgrim's Dole. Plus - I just have to meet Stinger. But can he hit one?

Off to FL. Go Hope!!
