This game appears to be Sold Out. I am not surprised but also surprised at the same time.... Hope fans, if you have an extra ticket to sell, please let me know!

I think last year it just sold out the morning of also.

You can try to sneak in as a Calvin student.  Put a nice camera around you and say you're with Chimes to take pictures and they may let you in.  It worked a few years ago with one my buddies.

haha I love the idea but the Calvin Security knows my face to well.... I went to them in a rage after the Calvin student section stole my "Dew Bong"! Still not happy about that!

That was you!? I was in the student section at that game front row but I swear it wasn't me  8-).  According to one the Dew Crew members, that cost you over 20 bucks.

There isn't as much Calvin security anymore, though.  Hope administration made Calvin hire a third party security company for Calvin-Hope basketball game since a certain incident a few years ago.

It appears that David Reitema was not medically cleared to play in this afternoon's game :(

Haaa! That thing did cost over $20! That's a lot of money for a poor college student! There was a Calvin student (no need to share his name) that over my four years attempted to steal from us every fricken year! He tried to steal my 3-man Dew sign, Mountain Dew at Half time (which almost resulted in a fight) and it was him that probably stole my Dew Bong as well!

I can understand why a third party was brought in! Things were getting pretty crazy! AND I LOVED IT!!! I look forward to the day when the Calvin student section finds their fire again!

Long live "The Rivalry"!

Looks like Hope is probably going to go 14-0 in the league this season.

Calvin needed a big game from Snikkers to have a chance and they got the opposite.  Some of that was on Snikker's sloppy play and some of that was on a good Hope defense.

When Hope went on dry spells on offense (very few of them), Calvin wouldn't take advantage and go on dry-spells as well.

Hope was much better around the basket than Calvin.  Anyime Hope would drive to the basket, it seems they'd make it, whereas Calvin struggled in that area.

Nice crowd today.  Both student sections were loud.  Hopin' someone got Powell's dunk on video (edit: that they can link it up).   I'm sure it'll be in the highlights on the Calvin productions.

I think the TV play-by-play announcer pretty much said it all when at 2:17 to go in the game he remarked: "Hope is still the enigma of this league right now."  I would have preferred that he had given us an occasional, or any, updates as to the the player and team foul situation during the game.  Now, THAT I would call an enigma.

Thanks to a good friend, I was able to score a ticket an hour before the game! It was advertised as sold out and it probably was but there were still a number of open seats (Still can't fill it... clap clap clap clap clap).

Great atmosphere and fun game to watch even though it felt a bit sloppy at points especially in the second half! Calvin had a nice half time presentation to honor both Presidents! I have to say it was a bit more classy than last years volleyball presentation....

Just saw the replay of Powells dunk on News 8..... sick.

Not only the best dunk in college basketball at any level, but the best play in all collegiate sports anywhere! ;)

New Tiebreaker Rules for MIAA Tournament:

The top four teams in the 2012 MIAA men's basketball standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the end-of-season AQ (automatic qualifier) tournament. The top two seeds will host the semifinal games on Wednesday with the winners to advance to the championship game on Saturday, to be held at the home court of the highest remaining seed.

Here are the tiebreakers that will be employed to settle qualifiers for the MIAA tournament:

1. In a two-way tie for the fourth seed, head-to-head matchups are the first tiebreaker. If one team defeats the other twice in the regular season, that team claims the tournament berth. If the two teams split the regular season matchups, a play-in game will be played on the Monday of the MIAA tournament week.

2. In case of a multiple tie, compare each team's records head-to-head against the other teams in the tie, with the worst record dropping out. Then go back to the two-team tiebreaker above.

Here are the tiebreakers generally used to determine seeding and home-court advantage for MIAA tournament play:

1. In case of a two-way tie, head-to-head matchups are the first tiebreaker. If one team defeats the other twice in the regular season, that team receives the higher seed.

2. If the teams in a two-way tie split their regular season meetings, compare each team's record against the team that is in first place in the standings. If the records against that team are identical, go to the next team down in the standings until the tie is broken.

3. In a case of a tie involving more than two teams, compare each team's records head-to-head against the other teams in the tie, with the team with the worst record dropping out. Then go back to the two-team tiebreaker above.

4. If the tie still remains, use the latest NCAA regional ranking.

5. If the tie remains after all other tiebreakers, the Commissioner will conduct a coin flip to break the tie.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Essentially Hope decided today's game beginning at the mid point of the first half when, over the next six minutes, the Flying Dutchmen went on a 17-0 run to turn a 22-19 deficit into a 36-22 lead. Hope is really good at transitioning from defense to offense, but it was during this run that they repeatedly beat Calvin down the floor after a turnover or rebound. Other than that stretch, I thought Calvin played fairly well considering the fact that their best player never showed up and KVS is forced to give important minutes to kids who would normally be exclusively playing JV ball. Hope certainly did nothing to make me think they don't deserve their number one ranking.

There are a couple of positives for Calvin coming from today's game. The Knights dominated the board 43-29, including a phenomenal 23 on the offensive end. I don't imagine Matt Neil is very happy about that. Also, Bryan Powell certainly should have gained everyone's repect with his play against Hope's deep and talented back court--and I'm not talking about his eye-popping tomahawk dunk over Coach Neil's son. Powell still puts up the occasional untimely shot but when he plays that hard every moment of the game I can put up with it. It would be nice if Calvin's most talented player took a lesson.
