Calvin clinches the #4 seed with a win and an Albion loss. Clinches play-in game with win and Albion win OR loss and Albion loss.

Well, let's see what we will talk about most after tonight's Trine vs Calvin game:

1.  NVA and his moving screens
2.  Bryan Powell's dunk
3.  Tom Snikker's 2nd half all 5 minutes of it
4.  Calvin's 25 fouls vs Trine's 16 fouls
5.  Calvin's 22 TO's
6.  One of the MIAA's top 3 big men Tyler Kruis (1 basket, 1 rebound, 1 block) or Trine's Tim Pearcy
7.  Reitema's return and impact 0-4 and 0 pts

A Calvin win and an Albion win means Calvin is playing a play-in game on the road.

A Calvin loss and an Albion loss means Calvin is playing a play-in game at home.

And then there's tonight's long bus ride back from Angola, Indiana.
That could be a quiet trip.

My guess KVS's last trip back from Angola

section7

Ohio Wesleyan 82
@ Wabash      81

Double OT

OW leads 82-79 and fouls Wabash's Jordan Surenkamp with 1 second to go on a 3 pt attempt:

1st FT = good
2nd FT = good
3rd FT = miss

Tough moment and loss on your home court

Then Hope is eliminated and the rest of the teams make the tournament.

...kidding

#2 Adrian
#3 coin flip between Albion / Trine

#4 play in game: Calvin @ loser of the coin flip.

I don't know if this was posted before, but Hope's Chris Ray is out for the season.  A big loss for the post-season.  Chris provided valuable minutes off the bench.

I'm going out on a limb here. Smite away if you must.

I've made no secret of the fact that I have a deep affection for Hope College. There are all sorts of reasons for this, most of which I have never gone into on this board. I love what Hope is, and I am excited about what Hope might become. I love many of the people there, and am committed to its vision. I am an avid fan of Hope basketball, and particularly so in Rivalry games.

I graduated from Calvin. During my time there I made good friends, most of whom I associate with regularly to this day. I met my wife, whom I also associate with regularly to this day. I got a first-rate education. I had excellent professors, some of whom I associate with regularly to this day. I have gotten to know fellow graduates through this board, and I have great respect and affection for them. During my time at Calvin I never developed an affection for the school. Again, all sorts of reasons. I liked the people, liked my classes, but never connected with the school. When I moved to Hope, it was never a conflict for me to root for Hope.

In my years on this board I have never traded on my status as a Calvin grad to speak in such a way as if I viewed Calvin as anything other than a rival.

Until tonight. As a graduate of the school, I think this is embarrassing, and I resonate with section7's (and realist's) sentiments. I honestly don't know how Calvin can keep KVS on as a coach after this season. No one revels in a Hope victory over Calvin more than I do (I'm guessing), but even I think this isn't acceptable. Calvin's team has too much talent to be worrying about a play-in game, and other than the 2005 season it has underachieved every year I've watched it. At a certain point it becomes obvious what the variable is.

I know faculty at Calvin who won't attend games because they get so frustrated watching the team. I know fellow graduates who won't attend because of the way the team consistently underperforms. It is, as they say, a big problem.

It didn't take Calvin's current president that long to make a decision concerning its incumbent coach. The new president may face a similar situation. I understand if Calvin fans resent my weighing in on their team. Fair enough. But this ain't good.

How about a little congratulations to Brooks Miller and the job he's done with Trine this season.  At the midpoint of the league season after being blown out in back-to-back games with Calvin and Hope I wasn't sure Trine could keep it together, but they have.

Trine's last 3 years in MIAA play

2010--2-12
2011--4-10
2012--8-5......and a chance for their highest MIAA finish since joining the league, with a team full of an awful lot of Fr.

This is an up and coming program.

As I've said before, Hope and Calvin fans had just better get used to the idea that Adrian and Trine are going to build competitive teams and from time to time they are going to at least beat Hope/Calvin once or twice and I really think in the near future at least one of them is going to have a great chance to win an MIAA Championship.
