Nice win for the Knights today as the league's best big man was Kruis'n with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Rietema, DeBoer and Powell also with double figures.

It was nice that they won, but I would not classify it as a "nice win" as they let an inferior team hang around until the last minute.

38 free throw attempts? Mmhmm...
12-4 first half fouls? 25-13 total fouls? Mmhmm...
Olivet deserved this win. The MIAA wasn't about to allow that to happen and rob themselves of another Calvin/Hope game on Wednesday. Everyone conveniently gets what they want
aj35, exactly what are you saying?  Do you believe that there was a conspiracy to make this happen?  Specifically who do you believe was part of this conspiracy?  Do you think the commish called the refs and said,  "Call lots more fouls on Olivet so we can make money on ticket sales on Wednesday."  Or do you think there was payola? You are talking about people who have devoted their professional lives to small college basketball and schools that choose to be D3 because of the place that they want to have sports in their priorities.  Please do not disparage these people unless you have some type of evidence other than the foul disparity, well explained by an impartial observer, SAC.  Think it through to the end.

In the Holland Sentinel they state that Hope completed the second undefeated season in the MIAA, the first being Calvin in 2000.  Is this since Trine entered the league?  Because I recall Hope going undefeated in 94-95 and I'm sure Calvin has done the same a few times.

I think they mean since the league went to 8 teams.  When Calvin did it in 2000 the MIAA had 8 teams, however than it was Defiance rather than Trine.

FWIW the Sentinel should do it's homwwork a little better.  If they had taken the time to check the MIAA website they would have learned Hope also went 14-0 back in 1960.  So this is the thrid time it happened at 14-0, and yes, it did happen quite a number of times at 12-0.

I think we all know that the chances of the Sentinel doing it's homework are about the same as Grace Bible winning the 2012 NCAA D3 basketball tournament!

For everyone other than Hope, its now win the league tournament or no NCAA this season.

Very good. :)

Here is something I just learned from the Hope site about it's basketball history:
"MEN'S BASKETBALL
  COLLEGE DIVISION
1958 Hope 101, Northern Illinois 95 (Regional)
Wheaton 104, Hope 93 (Regional)
1959 Hope 102, Loras, Iowa 73 (Regional)
Hope 81, Wheaton 76 (Regional)
SW Missouri State 76, Hope 74 (Championships)"

The 58 and 59 teams finished the MIAA season at 13-1.  Apparently Hope played in the national championship game in 1959.  Perhaps someone else can shed more light on this.

Yes, that was about 5 years before my parents were even introduced.  The SW Missouri State game was a quarterfinal game, then considered the National Finals when all 8 teams met in one location.

SW Missouri went on to lose to Evansville in the Championship game.

Thanks.  It appears the "college division" may have been what is now D2, and D3.

This is the type of in-depth color commentary we've been missing most of the year on this board. :-[ ???

And..... one last comment regarding the "Tie-Braker" deiscussion.  Maybe next year the MIAA should use the "Rock-Paper-Scissor-Lizzard-Spock" Method.... Just a thought!   :)    :)    :)

Yes. The NCAA used to have two divisions, University Division and College Division. In the early '70s the University Division was renamed Division I, and the College Division was split into Division II and Division III.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the Knights playing the Dutch. This doesn't seem to be the season that the bad luck will end for the Knights in the MIAA tournament....

True.  I was thinking this was the year finally where someone else other than Hope would end Calvin's season.

Such doom and gloom. Do you not recall the famous words of the greatest hero of your race, William the Silent (1533-1584), Prince of Orange and leader of the sixty-year war of independence that freed the Netherlands from Spanish rule?

Everyone is talking about the last undefeated MIAA season (by the way, congrats to Hope, they definitely are quite the team this year so hats off to them)..how about the last time Calvin finished .500? 1965. The last time they finished below that was 1983 the year before Douma came to coach the Knights.....woof.

Adrianguy55

Still a little disappointing that not all 8 teams get in the tourney.  The MIAA should take a look at what the OAC does.  IMO, this is how I think would play out

1st Round - Monday, Feb. 20
    #8(olivet) at #5 (Albion)
     #7 Kzoo at #6 Alma
Quarterfinals - Tuesday, Feb. 21
#6-7 (alma) Winner at #3 Trine
    #5-8 (albion)Winner at #4 Calvin
Semifinals - Thursday, Feb. 23
   #4-5-8 Winner (albion) #1 Hope
#3-6-7 Winner (alma) at #2 Adrian
Finals saturday, Feb 25
At the highest remaining seed
We would still get an Adrian Hope final.  Who would be against that tourney if it could happen?
I think Alma is playing like the 3rd best team in the conference right and there season is over.
