Karma +20 FDF!!!!!

On a serious note, does any Hope fan have an update on Bowser and his overseas adventures?  I haven't heard much at all, especially since he came home due to foot issues.  Did he have surgery?  Did he go back?

I know that Durham from Grace left the team, and country for that matter, for Finland.  Heard their was an issue or two about paying the "foreign" players.  Did Will get the proverbial "screw over" too?

Is there any concern that Hope has "limped" to the finish of the regular season.  Probably their two weakest performances in a while, if not all season, back to back?  Yes, it's often more difficult beating a team the second time around but....this is the #1 team in the land we're talking about.  Regardless, its nothing a little home cooking over the next couple weeks can't cure.  HOPE PLAYS, HOPE WINS!!!!

I think they were flat and not sufficiently engaged. I am expect a couple (that's right - 2) of big performances from them this week.

Definitely suffered from winter break syndrome at Olivet, and Saturday (IMHO) was a typical Senior Day.  They were out of their normal rotation for the entire game, IIRC.  I'm not worried about future performances based on these two incidents.

I'll take "one of the weakest performances of the season" any day if that includes a 30-4 run which effectively ends the game at the half. I suppose it's a good sign if we have to fret over 19 point wins.

Even as the #1 team at home in a down year for Calvin, I'll take a win by any score on Wed.

Sounding like HS Sr. Nathan Landsgaard (6-2, 200 lb, Goodrich) to Calvin.

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about him, but he appears to be a pretty good get for the Knights.

Calvin's injured sophomore forward Mitch Vallie played his last year of high school ball as a Goodrich Martian.

In other Calvin recruiting tidbits, Holland Christian's best all-around senior hoopster, Jon Maas, has been telling everyone for the past few weeks that he'll be suiting up in the maroon-and-gold. :)

Calvin's JV team should be sweet next year!

For all the tools who have been deducting my Karma for merely asking for an update about Bowser ( Forgot we are not allowed to discuss injuries to Hope players.  I  just assumed that was limited to CURRENT Hope players)  Or was it that I dare mentioned that Hope may have been a tad flat the past week, as commented on by SAC and reaffirmed by winter break and Senior Day theories from others.  Anyone who thinks their play the past week was conducive for a #1 team leading into the tourney, has their head buried in the sand.  You probably will still validate a coach bringing in a player off the street during the season to fill a roster spot when you have a JV program in place..... Question of the day:

Which player would you rather have come off the bench shooting 3's for the Dutchman during the tournament?  3 year varsity player Logan Neil or 10 year old ball boy Logan Neil?  I expect to have negative Karma by the end of the day.....enjoy!

Logan is shooting 22% from 3-point range for the year and, if I'm not mistaken, about 15% in league play. Honestly, unless there is an injury that has healed or something clicked between Saturday and tomorrow, he ought not to be shooting. I don't expect that problem to be corrected by the time of the NCAA tourney, which is unfortunate as he was a genuine threat last year, and an important part of the comeback against Augie.

Logan still has great-looking form, and I'm hoping might return to his last season shooting (à la Reggie Jackson Mr. October).  He and Billy Seiler have been great team players and defenders.  As for who might be shooting three's next year, here's Steve Wittenbach's stats.  His season playing time adds up to one 36 minute 24-point game:
                                       Shooting      3-pt shots   Free Throws
30 Stephen Wittenbach.    8-13   .615   3-4    .750   5-6    .833

Pretty amazing, given that he has accomplished this after sitting for nearly the whole game.  Despite not much playing time, he has been visibly supportive of his teammates from the bench.  Kudos to him for his patience and positive spirit.

Happy Calvin Guy

1.  I wouldn't guarantee that all of Calvin's current varsity non-seniors make the team next year.  If we get any stud freshman, there will be roster availability.
2.  hoopdreams, I like your stuff usually and willingness to "speak the truth" but I'm not generally a fan of posters on this board talking too much about their own karma.
3.  I agree with you on Neil.  If it comes down to a last second three pointer tomorrow, as a Calvin fan I'd rather see freshman Wittenbach taking the shot than senior Neil.

Go Knights, it's time to let it all hang out!  And just remember, with Rietema on the floor, Calvin and Hope have each won one half this year.  I believe that his presence on the floor is a huge key to Calvin's ability to hang with the Dutchmen.

Figured I would take a shot at predicting the All MIAA first and second teams for this year:

First Team
David Krombeen - SR - Hope (MVP)
Nate Snuggerud - JR - Hope
Kolin Kazen - JR - Albion
Joe Prepolec - SR - Kalamazoo
Tom Snikkers - JR - Calvin
Alvino Ashley - JR - Olivet

Second Team
Peter Bunn - SR - Hope
Scott Rogers - JR - Trine
Sean Gallant - JR - Adrian
Cory Schneider - SR - Alma
Richaud Pack - SO - Adrian
Tyler Kruis - SO - Calvin

Ian Jackson (Trine), Mark Ghafari (Kalamazoo), Nate VanArendonk (Hope) would be next for me.

Let the debates begin...

I tried the same thing a few days ago, and many of our names are the same.  I know some of the guys on your first team are good players, but found it hard to give them first team over a guy from an Adrian or Trine that got to the MIAA tourney.  Adrian has played with such balance it is hard to deny them a representativee, but it was hard for me to select one.  I went with Pack.  I had Jackson for Trine higher, acknowledging he had some down games this year, but think teams felt they had to control him to beat Trine.  I have always liked Joe P., but he just didn't have a great year.  I dropped AA because the meetings just weren't fun. :D :D  Seriously, he is another good player, but doubt he would have performed as well on a better team.

Adrian's balance (and their fairly low scoring offense) did make it really hard to put someone on the 1st team.  Joe P didn't have a great year, but his numbers are pretty decent (14.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, with 20 blocks) .  Jackson simply did not impress me in the two times I saw him play - not only his lack of offense (which I credit to Hopes defense) but I also think he is a liability on the defensive side.  Rogers was a more complete player.  AA was a real pain both games against Hope, but the kid plays hard.  I guess you could argue he'd do a bit better if he had some (any) help.
