Since you raised the topic, and someone has asked what Hope fans think about Bunn this year, I will relate my arrogant opinion in all its glorious smugness.

Simply: he doesn't look like the same player to me. Perhaps the most telling indicator has been the decline in his free throw shooting this year against his other years in a Hope uniform. Also, he has developed this habit of double-pumping or clutching every time he shoots inside, and I think that habit more than anything has made him a less effective shooter.

Obviously he is still an important contributor to Hope's success this year, but I don't think we'll see a point explosion from him unless he goes up stronger with the ball.

I expect today to be another good test for the Dutchmen. We will see what both teams learned Wednesday night. Whether Hope makes it to Salem will depend on whether they can consistently play defense like they did in the first half of that game.

I see PB's talent level still there . . . his leaps and rebounds, his 3-point shooting (43%), and even his free throw shooting is a team best among those in the rotation (81%).  To my eyes, he's scoring a bit less because he's initiating fewer moves, perhaps because the team-flow demands less one-on-one, and passing up more open 3-point shots (which I wish he'd take).

I hoped, before the last game, that Logan, whose form still looked great, would break out in the post-season play.  With that wish so far granted, I'll be greedy and also wish for PB to step it up a notch.  He still has the talent and is a vital part of the chemistry of this year's team.

I've been impressed with Peter's overall play this year.  He does have that bad habit of trying to take a little more difficult shot than he needs and shooting on the way down on his jump shot.  I've been most impressed, however, with his willingness to defer to DK and Snuggs on offense and doing the dirty things like playing solid defense and rebounding that this team needs.  That's not easy for a player that two years ago was relied on to provide more in the way of offense.

I still think that before this year is done, Peter is going to step up and win a game down the stretch with either a big shot or key free throws.  It's a great problem to have when you have a player of Peter's ability be the third or fourth option in an offensive set.

Well worded and accurate from what I've seen.   At the start of the year it was Peter and David carrying more of the load.  As the years worn other parts of Hope's game have developed nicely and the load has shifted a little.  After looking at things more closely he's getting 7 or 8 shots per game, and I don't really think he's forced anything all year.

2 years ago Hope's starting 5 was

Jr. Will Bowser
Sr. Chris Nelis
Jr. Andy Venema
So David Krombeen
Jr. Peter Bunn

Bench guards
Fr. Jared Mysliewiec
Jr. Ty Tanis
Sr. Scott Jungling
So. Logan Neil

Krombeen and Bowser hadn't yet broken out as scorers.  Venema and Nelis were ok interior players but the bulk of the guard play had to come from Peter.  He just got more opportunities.

His FG% is actually 2 points better this year.  3 pt shooting is down from '11, but that's down from a pretty incredible 52% now its a more normal 43%, and he's up'd the rebounds per game by 1.

Statistically he's pretty much the same player, just fewer opportunities.

Good luck to the bulldogs today.  Let's hope we get the same results we did in 2001 and 2004.

I've only seen Bunn a handful of time, but it appears to me that the skills are still there. It seemed to me like he was deferring too much to his teammates. Although they never really needed him to step up as the scorer he once was, at least not in conference play.

Thanks Dutchwatcher for sharing your thoughts! I also noticed PB doing a lot of the little things on Wednesday vs. calvin especially during the first half! His defense was outstanding and he had some big rebounds as well! He ended with 6 points and would have doubled that total if his two 3-pointers didnt rattle out.

The second half was a different story though, and I believe a large part of that was that L. Neil brought his A-game that night! Logan played 21 m and deserved it! There was a LONG stretch where PB could only sit and watch.

Even with that being said, we have seen a different player in PB this year.... I keep waiting for him to break out and drop 25 any given night! We know he is capable, and like Dutchwatcher said, there will be a time in the coming week(s) (Hopefully) where we will need him to elevate his offensive performance!

Cheers to the best time of year! Let the Madness begin!!!

Ouch . . . NVA is in street clothes for today's Hope-Adrian game.  Maybe HoopDreams will have the scoop.

Update:  Word in the stands (from a pretty good source) is flu/fever.

Adrian's without 2 starting guards.  Hope's depth and talent should be more than enough to win by at least 18.

Kevin Kooiker and Wallace Whitfield are two of the three officials working today's Hope-Adrian championship game.

Dear Hope College, if K College can video broadcast its games on its limited budget, you certainly should be able to.  Let's get two in.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I'll bet the reasons are not limited resources.
