NCAC - OWU, Witt, Woo
OAC - Cap, Carroll
MIAA - Hope

Sure wish we could get that turned around.  One thing to say,  GO HOPE!!!!!

That's Carroll of the Midwest Conference (MW region), not John Carroll of the OAC.

A quick look at Westminster's roster shows they are not going to match up well at all size wise.  Westminster only has 1 player 6'5" tall. This looks like a great game to start off a tournament run.

Starting with a SLIAC team is always good.  Long-time IWU coach Denny Bridges (in his memoir) rather impolitely, but accurately, referred to SLIAC tourney opponents as 'speed bumps'. :P
Without looking up the exact number; the SLIAC entry has never won an NCAA post season tournament game.

The SLIAC is 0-15 in the D3 tourney. On only two occasions (Fontbonne in 2008 and Westminster in 2010) has the SLIAC rep kept the final margin within single digits.

Maybe Calvin could do Hope a favor and scrimmage Westminster this Wednesday, just to soften them up a little. :)

And breach the iron curtain?

Hope will need to be careful. Despite its league's horrible D3 tourney record, the Blue Jays will fight them on the beaches, they shall fight on the landing grounds, they shall fight in the fields and in the streets, they shall fight in the hills; they shall never surrender.

Not to point out the obvious but seeing David Krombeen starting a fast break with 4 Calvin defenders behind him probably didn't end well for the Knights.

He's my #1 draft pick in the tourney fantasy league. The heck with Hope; he'd better deliver the goods for Team Sager. ;)

Unfortunately, they play basketball like Winston. :P

"It all started with the great defensive play with Pete (Bunn) getting the strip. It was one of those dunks where you go up and you don't even think about dunking it, but you're up there. So you might as well flush it."

I simply can't relate

I can't relate either, although I've had dreams where I've done that.

If it started with a strip by Bunn, why does it look like he's admiring the play with his teammates from the bench in the background? Was it someone else that made the defensive play? Sorry for the confusion on my part, all I saw was "GOOD! DUNK by Colton Overway". Play by play says Holwerda came away with the steal prior to the dunk.

Strip was by Kromb, the foundation of team Sager.

Peter was admiring it from the bench.  It was Coltan who subbed in for him a few seconds earlier.  A lot happened in the final minutes of that game, it doesn't surprise me a player could confuse plays.

I notice that video cuts out before Barne's three.  That's a shame, because that was a pretty awesome sequence in such a game.

Thanks for looking up the 0-15 record; and, I would echo your comment above.  Despite the SLIAC 0-15 record in D3 tourney, the SLIAC representatives play hard and tough.  Westminster a solid, well-coached team. You can't take them for granted; or, you just might expend a lot more effort than you anticipated.

Love that video - and I had forgotten about the nice pass by Krombeen that lead to the dunk!!

If it was polo, that would actually be a compliment. Jenny Churchill's boy rocked the polo pitch for many a year, both in Merrie Olde and abroad in His Majesty's colonies.

Reminds me of a question I've had since the first Calvin-Hope game. Why is the paint on the 3' restricted arc so bad at the DeVos?

I don't think it's paint, yet.  I believe it's tape, like they use for marking the volleyball lines when they use the main court.  Maybe waiting to refinish the floor this summer?
