Oh yeah... I knew something important was getting announced today. Congrats to Dave Krombeen MIAA MVP!

Most Valuable Player
David Krombeen, Hope
(senior from Grandville/Grandville HS)

All-MIAA First Team

Nate Snuggerud, Hope* (junior from Zeeland/Zeeland East HS)
Tom Snikkers, Calvin** (junior from Jenison/Hudsonville Unity Christian HS)
Kolin Kazen, Albion* (junior from Holland/Saugatuck HS)
Ian Jackson, Trine** (junior from Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian HS)
Scott Rogers, Trine* (junior from Waterford/Kettering HS)

All-MIAA Second Team
Joe Prepolec, Kalamazoo (senior from Bloomfield Hills/Andover HS)
Peter Bunn, Hope (senior from Lansing/Lansing Christian HS)
Richaud Pack, Adrian (sophomore from Southfield/Birmingham Seaholm HS)
Alvino Ashley, Olivet (junior from Detroit/Martin Luther King HS)
Cory Schneider, Alma (senior from Carson City/Carson City-Crystal HS)
Tommy Erickson, Alma (senior from Escanaba/Escanaba HS)

* - denotes number of years All-MIAA First Team

Congrats to all of these guys, well deserved.   I have to imagine the final spot came down to Joe Propolec and Scott Rogers.   Rogers had a really solid season that not many of us recognized.

--------------
David Krombeen is Hope's 4th MIAA MVP in the last 6 years. In the last 20 years or so only 5 guards have been named the leagues MVP.

94--Chris Knoester, Calvin
97--Joel Holstege, Hope
98--Joel Holstege, Hope
06--Stephen Cramer, Hope
12--David Krombeen, Hope

The measuring stick at guard for anyone who's watched Hope for the past 15 to 20 years is probably Joel Holstege (or Eric Elliot if you're old enough like me) and David is going to finish his Hope career right behind Joel in just about every statistical category.

This almost makes me want to root for Calvin to win the national championship in March 2013, just so that I could see realist try to backpedal from this statement. ;)

That was a near cheer, Gregory.  Come on over to the Knight side.  It builds character, or something.
Hard to imagine that realist is a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs. ;)

Calvin's already converted my brother into becoming a Knights supporter. One NPU alumnus named Sager rooting for Calvin is enough. ;)

I'm old enough (barely) to have watched EE play and I would still say that Holstege is the measuring stick over the last 20+ years. I'd love to have the chance to see David pour in anywhere near 39 points in a game in Salem.

Not difficult for me to imagine.  Since the Cubs haven't won the world series since 1908, they have used realist's philosophy of changing managers until they return to glory.  Unfortunately, some fifty-six managers later, it hasn't done much good.

I like the way you think, Anders. If Krombeen is in Salem scoring 39 points a game*, rest assured that there will be a Team Sager t-shirt coming your way. ;)

You can't have it both ways.  You can't continue to tell me how great Calvin's players are, and at the same time make excuses for their lack of performance.  If the problem isn't the players (which I doubt any of you seriously think it is) than you are going to have to acknowledge what the problem is.
Are Calvin's players that great?  They had the same number of players on the first 2 all-MIAA teams as Olivet.  Maybe the talent level isn't as good as some of us would like to believe.

This might be the first time a discussion about Calvin has broken new ground in the last 2 months. :-\

Pretty sure 10 years is longest Calvin has gone without a league MVP since before they joined the MIAA.

Travis DePree can have his league MVP, Dan Aultman went to the final four.

Maybe we shouldn't have built that new arena eh? Especially if the teams we're putting on the court aren't even something to cheer for (whether you think the problem is talent, the coach, or the terrible fans).
