Recruiting ... Matt Van Dyk, a 6-5, 20 and 10 guy for Imlay City, has Hope in his final three.

Like Van Dyk, one of the top forward recruits in the state for this level is 6-5, 230-lb. Jared Holmquist from Reed City, has Trine in his final four.

Elk Rapids' all-time leading scorer 6-3 Luke Morrison has Calvin on a diverse list that includes everyone from U. Chicago to D2 offers.

If you haven't yet had a chance to vote for one of the players for the All-Star game listed on the front page of the d3hoops website, please consider voting for: Seth Anderson, Gustavus Adolphus.  (That's so when they introduce him as one of the players, they can really say, "Seth Anderson, from "God Save Us A Dolfin!"   :)    :)    :)  )

Still stinging from this past weekend.  If you would have told me a Hope player would score 40 pts, I would have been quite certain they would win.  In looking at the bracket, it seems likely Hope would have hosted again this weekend with a decent shot of reaching the Final Four.  All of that is speculation at this point unfortunately.  It doesn't take away from a great year Hope had and really shows how slim the margin of error is when you get to the tournament.

With the group Hope has coming back, I feel pretty good about next year.  It'll be the first time in a while where guard play is the question mark and the interior is not.  Overway should prove to be a solid starting PG but beyond that I have a lot of uncertainty with the backcourt.  I think this is a key recruiting year for Hope -- undefeated in conference, #1 ranking, #1 in attendance, some key open roster spots - and it will hopefully add up to a solid class.  Thus far, Neil has been playing with GVW's recruits for the most part so it'll be important for MN to restock.

Whose recruit would you say NVA was?  I would assume that GVW made the initial run at him, but by the time he had decided to leave Central, (I would assume) Matt Neil was Hope's coach.  Is he Neil's recruit?  GVW's? I have no idea.

He could be considered a legacy recruit, similar to Faber College's Kent Dorfman.

It wasn't my impression Harris was seriously considering two sports in college. In fact, rumor has it the reason he played football this year was because Izzo told him he needed to play football in order to bulk up for basketball. On another note -- even though we know he has never considered Calvin -- It looks like Calvin has turned down / rejected the idea of adding football. And, as we've been discussing recruiting and Harris and Calvin College, I think Harris's teammate, Jordan Daley, is at least considering Calvin College. It looks like he averages about 10 points a game, but he scored 22 against Wyoming Park earlier this year (Harris had only 12 points in this game). While I know he's looking at other options, I'd love to see him in a Knight uniform next year.

Reports say that Drake's father limited him to one varsity sport as a frosh (I believe he played JV football and it wasn't because of skill) as he transitioned into high school.

I'll throw my hat into the ring on this whole Neil vs GVW recruiting fiasco.  As i've mentioned multiple times before MN has had a HUGE impact on recruiting for several years now.  I can say with great certainty that Krombeen, Snuggs, Overway, NVA, both Neil's (shocker) simply through AAU, which GVW wasn't involved in.  I believe Holwerda's father played with Neil, that's 7 roster spots right there.  Wittenbach is 8.  Bunn-No, King-no (wasn't recruited necesarily, his hs coach was a Hope Grad).  I don't know the personal connection for Ray, Seiler or Demaagd.

Just because someone is in "charge" does not mean they are automatically the main reason kids attend a certain program.  The GVSU model shows this.  Paddock led the program to the promised land with relentless recruiting- local, midwestern and JUCO, Wesley steered the ship.  No coincidence that he leaves for DU and there has been a mass exodus of players and the recruiting patterns have changed, GVSU has been merely average the last couple of seasons and DU is one of the best NAIA programs in the country.

I don't think that's correct. Jim Holwerda finished in '78 and Matt Neil's last season was '82. They may have waved at one another as the revolving door sent the former out while the latter was entering Hope.

Not so fast, my friend...(although OK beat me to it)

I'd give them 50-50 on holwerda/van arendonk since both dads played under gvw.

I'd give snuggs + krombeen to gvw, as he was at the majority of their games in HS.

Neil didn't seem to be much of an overway backer in HS (according to his coaches), but has become an ardent supporter since colt has been in college...maybe 50-50 there too?

But certainly any and all AAU connections would give the nod to Neil, as well as any non-local (IL) kids...gvw didn't seem to hit out of state much.

This isn't the final decision. From what I've heard, the Faculty Senate just recently voted "no" on it, but they don't get the final word. The ball is now in the court of the board of trustees, and they're supposed to make a decision in late May.

1 -- Football Feasibility Task Force: "yes"
2 -- Planning and Priorities Committee: "yes"
3 -- Faculty Senate: "no"

Interesting story there - Jim H actually hosted Matt N when Matt visited Hope on a recruiting visit.  Years later, Logan M hosted Josh H on his recruiting visit to Hope.

Just ran across Jim Holwerda in my stats as well.  I was looking to see where Peter Bunn and David Krombeen are in the all-time list of 1000+ point scorers.  Peter is 24th, David is 21st, and sitting between them in a tie for 22nd are Jim Holwerda and Ryan Klingler

Doesn't surprise me at all.  I've heard an overwhelming majority of faculty has been against the football idea from the start of the feasibility study.
