Just thought I'd put that out there. I'll be really interested to see how the boys quarterfinal will draw. Especially if Sparta won tonight against Muskegon heights. There is talk of 1000+ and a chance to set an attendance record at that gym

It will be Cadillac vs Muskegon Heights.

Also, Class B #1 Lansing Sexton only won their regional final by 49 tonight.  82-33.  Their avg margin of victory in their 5 tournament games is 32.0 points per game.  In order  45-34-10-22-49

Bellaire and Muskegon Catholic Central will play at Hope College in a Class D Quarterfinal.

...and WOTS is that Ricky Shilts (JV and varsity assistant at Calvin) was let go last week.

Seriously?  That seems like a shame.  Nice guy, seemed like a good coach.  I'm sure there's more to the story, but if this is true, it makes me sad.   :-\

Terrible. Just terrible. Fired the only guy in the program who played at a high level. Congrats Kevin.

It's true; Ricky was let go. This is a headscratcher to more than a few Knights fans, that's for sure.

I know that more than a few players used Ricky as a confidant when they were having rough points instead of talking to KVS because they identified better with a younger coach who recently graduated and KVS laid into him more than once during games for "talking to his players" so maybe that had something to do with it?

For talking to his players??? Isn't that what Assistant Coaches are supposed to do, to keep the guys on the bench into the game?   I'm FAR away from the situation, but VERY hard to understand... hope you guys can research further.....

Maybe VandeStreek is...trying to..rebuild the program?

I'm simply an outsider but there is an incredibly HUGE difference between talking to players and undermining what a head coach is trying to do.  It's OK to allow kids to vent their issues but whether you agree with the situation/feelings/response or not, you must remain in alliance with your coach, his philosphies his discipline, etc....

If there is a belief that the kids were tuning KVS out and not responding to him, this is probably a pretty good indicator why.   Hard to lead a program when the kids are getting mixed signals and your support staff isn't supporting you, rather making you look the the "bad guy" who is out of touch and  doesn't understand kids anymore.

Teams must be cancer free in order to thrive and it sounds like KVS just removed a tumor (regardless if he seems like a really nice guy)

Knowing what I do about the program, the situation, and Ricky as a person, tumor is about the most incorrect term to use.

As I stated, I am simply an outsider but the scenario (good cop-bad cop) presented is something that I have witnessed, and been involved in.  One person spreading negative energy, intentional or not, whether it's a coach, team captain or student manager can and will divide a program every time.

I simply threw out a theroy.  Using the word "tumor" was meant for enphasis.  Of course a great guy couldn't possibly be a tumor.  Would "distraction" have been a better choice of word?

I think the point is that you are assuming quite a bit that is not known for sure.  There could be about 100 other reasons for this move.  We should always be cautious when talking about specific people.  OK would tell us to only testify to what we know to be true.
