You can watch the state high school semi-finals games today and Friday
http://www.mhsaa.tv/events/32460

or

http://www.foxsportsdetroit.com/pages/prepzone_streaming1

Fox Detroit has links to all four games, I assume the MHSAA site will do the same, but its a little unclear.

I'm watching (working too!!) and trying to cheer on my Schoolcraft Eagles against Flint Beecher in Class C.  Ugggghhhhhhhhhhhh - talk about watching a game of Men vs. Boys (with NO disrespect to Schoolcraft!) but Holy Basketball players Batman - Beecher sure has a team!!!  And is Flint Beecher's  coach Mike Williams, the MIAA former player Mike Williams?

Edit:  It's over.....    :-[     Flint Beecher 65, Schoolcraft 45

TC St. Francis holds off Shelby to win the 2nd 'C' semi-final.

The MHSAA broadcast mentioned Shelby coach Rick Zoulek was a Hope graduate and played basketball and baseball at Hope.   I don't recognize the name, anyone with some help here?

Your answer appears to be on page 13 of this Hope pdf.

If my memory cell is working, I was a student at Hope with Rick Zoulek. He also played BB for Coach VanWieren and...I'm thinking that he was also from Shelby - and that was without looking at the Hope PDF material. Now let's see if I'm close!!

Edit:  Not too bad for my memory cell!!!  Pretty cool that he does both boys and girls!!  Nice job Rick!!

I see Shelby's leading scorer today was David Beckman Jr.  Is it safe to assume he is the son of the former Hope star who played his college ball with Matt Neil?

Oldknight... David Beckman.... what great memories... such a pure shooter.... but alas, Dave Beckman never took the court with Matt Neill... he was a Frosh when Neill was a Senior, and played JV that one year they were both at Hope... Dave's older brother Brian played on the same teams as Matt Neil, whose final game was the tough loss to Wabash (Pete Metselaars) at the Civic Center in the Regional Final

Let me tell you, if Dave Beckman Jr is the kind of young man I remember his Dad was, I sure would love to see his name on a Hope roster.....

Not sure if anyone had pointed this out yet, but UWW became the first school in d3 (second in any division to Florida in 07-08) to win both football and basketball NCAA Championships in the same year...

UWW is also only the second D3 school to win Big Doorstops in both of the major sports in college athletics, football and men's basketball. Wittenberg is the other.

What year did Wittenberg do this? I read it in the USA today yesterday. Maybe I can find it and double check myself but it state that uww was the second ever...

No, you're confusing two different achievements, sflzman. I didn't say that Wittenberg won the football and men's basketball titles in the same year. I said that Wittenberg has won national championships in both sports. The Tigers won D3 football titles in 1973 and 1975, and hoops titles in 1961* and 1977.

It's no less remarkable an achievement for UWW, considering that there's only one other institution on this level that has garnered Walnut and Bronze in the two big sports.

*Wittenberg's first hoops title was in the old NCAA College Division, which split into D2 and D3 in the early Seventies.

Sorry bout that. Read over that too quickly...I feel like there should be more schools that have won both though. Kind of surprises me

I'm thinking just th opposite, especially now with the number of schools involved. For UWW to do it in the same year is truly remarkable.

Rocford 62
Romulus 61

Rockford with avery impressive win.  Only 7 turnovers against pressue defense.

sac

Rockford's poise, patience all game long was pretty incredible, not just only 7 turnovers but hardly any forced shots.  Romulus coach went to the stall offense with almost 5 minutes to play and it allowed Rockford back in the game, not a great decision.  I thought Rockford was providing enough time consuming offense, all Romulus had to do was keep playing.

At the end the result was justice, as the traveling call on the big kid for Rockford as the game neared its end was just mind bogglingly terrible.

Rockford had 2 fouls to give, less than 10 seconds on the clock, and the full court to defend yet allowed Romulus to inbound the ball into the hands of their best player who nearly made the 25 footer to win at the buzzer.  Why no foul?

Fourth year in a row the Lansing Eastern Quarterfinal winner advances to the State Championship game.

Didn't think L'Anse Creuse could stay with Saginaw but they did for most of the game.  Odd to see Saginaw who presses so well have so much trouble when LNC went to the press.  Felt like Saginaw should have won by more, way more.

Spotted on the bench as an assistant for L'Anse Creuse North was former Albion Briton Steve Conger.
