Southfield Christian plays in the D final today. Former Piston Lindsey Hunter is an assistant coach. His 2 sons , Lindsey IV and Lindsey V are on the team.  He went to the George Foreman school of naming children.

TC St. Francis holds off Shelby to win the 2nd 'C' semi-final.

The MHSAA broadcast mentioned Shelby coach Rick Zoulek was a Hope graduate and played basketball and baseball at Hope.   I don't recognize the name, anyone with some help here?

Apparently Shelby likes former MIAA players as Eddie Douma led them to class C championships in 71 and 72.

Olivet has what they're calling their final 4 candidates coming in this week for the head coaching position.

Interesting list.  All candidates are relatively young with resumes not dating back very many years.  Unfortunately if they hired Kool he has no eligibility remaining and can't suit up as a player/coach as he'd be more talented than any of the players in the program  ;).

In regards to David Kool, .....Now he wants to do DivIII??!!   ::)   :)

You have to earn your coaching stripes somewhere!  I know there are a few high schools in West Michigan that were hoping he (Kool) would go the prep route but it looks like he has bigger things in mind.

Speaking of earning their stripes, there were more than a few whispers at the Breslin last weekend about Mark White throwing his hat into the circus ring also known as CMU basketball.  Is a couple years at a D3 school enough?

Anyone have connections at CMU? Would be cool to make this happen.  :)

I hear realist is tying his hardest to get KVS the gig.  :) :)

Are the Comets perhaps hoping that Kool could help recruit the christian school kids away from Hope and Calvin?

Kool is a fascinating member of the Olivet "final four." No head coaching experience (unless you count coaching an AAU team two years ago ;D), but his name recognition as a result of fabulous careers in h.s. and college would seem to give him a leg up on the other candidates in terms of recruiting.  While Kool's Christian school background (having played at South Christian) would likely help in recruiting Christian school kids, I suspect it has less to do with specifically competing against Hope and Calvin for those kids and has more to do with his potential to be a formidable recruiter across the board for any potential DIII kids.

It's not hard to imagine his recruiting pitch: "People told me I was too small and not good enough to play DI basketball (particularly after an ACL injury in high school), and I proved 'em wrong.  People say Olivet is too small and will never compete for MIAA titles--come join me at Olivet and let's prove everybody wrong."

Don't know the other candidates, but I for one could see Olivet giving him a shot.  You would have to know, however, that as soon as you got good, he's going to have opportunities and would likely move upward and onward if he's making this his profession...but probably worth the risk.

Trine steals one out of Michigan and from the WHAC, 6-5 Jared Holmquist from Reed City. He plays for all the right reasons and will be a cornerstone of their program there.

Hardly a steal.  Pretty common knowledge for the past 3 or 4 months.  Good kid and will be fun to see him in the MIAA.  Probably regrets not looking harder at Alma now that Hargraves has shown what he can do.  It's dad's alma mater and Jared likes young coaches.  Could have been a terrific fit.

Yes dissapointing he couldn't have looked more into Alma. I bet coach hargraves is dissapointed in that one. I think Sam was hoping to grab him. Either way I think it looks like he's going to have a solid first recruitin class this year...

Anyone happen to see any hemlock games this year? They played down at Sparta against muskegon heights in a class b regional semi. They have a kid by the name of tj vondette that should be an MIAA player. I know Alma is looking a him. Anyone know of any other MIAA interest?

If you really want him, do you want to alert other MIIA schools? :D

And d3 has no letters of intent - no reason you can't still recruit Jared! 8-)
