I don't know if Calvin is allowed to fire people on a Sunday. :)

Heard KVS was fired today.

Is this a lame attempt at an April Fools joke?  ;D

Bad joke. Me and realist actually started to hope that Calvin's team had a chance to win something next year. Sadly brought back to reality

Only in the event of flagrant disregard of strict sabbatarianism.

Actually we can. I know this is still true because just this morning--while searching in the Psalter Hymnal for the Form for the Celebration of the Lord's Supper--I ran past the Form for Excommunication. We just can't hire the replacement unless it's a weekday.

Calvin lands 6-5 Matt Van Dyk from Imlay City, a Class B honorable mention All-Stater.  He averaged nearly 16 points, 10 rebounds and a half-dozen assists in 21 games in his senior season.

A few weeks ago, SBell noted that Matt had narrowed his list of college choices to three, including Hope.

Maybe Steve Bell can weigh in on Van Dyk's abilities. Bell of bankhoops.com listed Matt as a Class B second teamer--no small feat given the depth of talent in Class B this past season.

Athletic, puts his nose in there to board and finish above the rim. 6-5 tweener forward so MIAA good spot for him. Got to know him at camps and he played one AAU tournament with us as a fill-in, nice kid.

29-17 versus Hope;
Just to mention a few things.  The problem with KVS is what should have happened, but hasn't.

I would doubt that he's 29-17 vs. Hope.
More like 9-17, I'd guess, in the last 26 games between the rivals.

Thanks.  The correct number is 17-29 versus Hope per a post by a Hope fan on page 2249  ;)

I hadn't realized until last night that Hope's last 3 losses to D3 schools have been this...

Albion 76-78 OT
Augustana  80-88 OT
Illinois Wesleyan 101-108  2OT

36-3 vs D3 since the MIAA opening loss to Calvin last season.  Hope's had one double-digit loss to a D3 school since the Platteville game of 2009.
That's quite an achievement.  Not much to show for it though.

5-0 vs Calvin......seems good to me.

What's the Calvin vs. Hope record over the last few seasons?...maybe the last 5? Just throwin out a number
Hope's ahead the past 5 years.
11-4 Hope
29-17 Hope for the KVS years

I'd be interested in hearing a list of the top established D3 coaching names out there and comparing their resumes.

As far as 'established' goes, perhaps coaches that have been in their current spot for more than five years? What do you all think?

Anyone have names for me?

How about we compare him to such names as Bobby Knight, Lloyd Carr, Bobby Bowden, and now recently Bruce Weber? Coaches who were successful and then lost the "choice" to stay or go. Anyone have feedback when it is no longer the coaches "choice"? And I would say that Bruce Weber is a fair comparison as he was "successful" in the Big Ten and just recently had a bad streak of about 6 years....
