Hope has named its 3 captains for next season.  Sr's Nate Snuggerud, Coltan Overway and Josh Holwerda.

I like how they're each holding a basketball. Otherwise how would we know what sport they play?

I'm sure they did that for the occasional Calvin fan who might stumble across the Hope website, and get confused.  Apparently that assumption was right  :)   :P

I usually can tell what sports are played at a school but what banners are in the rafters :)

Quick, someone alert the NCAA!!!!!!!!  Apparently Calvin only plays 2 Men's and 2 Women's sports!

Hope only plays women's basketball ;)

With all the barbs flying around here, I do appreciate SKOT taking the time and effort to proactively point out Calvin's success in multiple sports as defined by national championships.  I realize that not every school around these parts has enjoyed this level of achievement, so it's mighty big of him as a Hope fan to highlight Calvin's.  Thanks!   ;)

Only if coaches aren't allowed to be there. Then Calvin has a decent chance at getting a few W's.

With the topic of other sports, am I correct that Hope is going to win the Commissioner's Cup?  Hope had a lead after the winter sports and appears to have fared quite well during these spring sports so far that are about to end.

It would appear to be the case - although I've never been able to acutally figure out the formula they use to get to the right point toals the MIAA reports.

The final standings after spring competition will be determined on the basis of each college's standings in eight-of-nine sports for men and eight-of-nine sports for women. The tabulation through the winter season is based on five-of-six sports for men and five-of-six sports for women.

After Winter sports
Overall Cup Standings: 1. Hope 136, 2. Calvin 121, 3. Adrian 84, 4. Alma 78, 5. Albion 72, 6. Trine 68, 7. Olivet 64, 8. Kalamazoo 63.

Men's All-Sports Standings: 1. Hope 64, 2. Calvin 49, 3. Trine 43, 4. Albion 40, 5. Adrian 38, 6. Alma 32, 7. Olivet 30, 8. Kalamazoo 24.

Women's All-Sports Standings: 1. Calvin 72, 1. Hope 72, 3. Adrian 46, 3. Alma 46, 5. Saint Mary's 40, 6. Kalamazoo 39, 7. Olivet 34, 8. Albion 32, 9. Trine 25.

Hope had a sizable lead in the overall after the winter sports.  It doesn't look to me like Calvin has done enough to close that gap in the spring season.

It's a moving target since the lowest finish for each school is dropped from the point totals. Probably the reason for confusion.

Calvin has made sure to meet the requirements of Title IX while Hope would be found to be reverse discriminating against male athletes.  ;)

Having championships in 4 sports is quite an achievement. I wonder what percentage of schools have one CHAMPIONSHIP, two, three, etc.  I have a feeling the number drops off a cliff pretty quickly.

Also I saw that someone named Evert Geerlings won the MIAA Field Day in the pole vault.  Is there any relation with our favorite referee?

Hope has announced that "President Bultman Will Continue Service Through 2012-13 School Year".

http://www.hope.edu/2012/05/07/president-bultman-will-continue-service-through-2012-13-school-year

It's just a matter of time before Jim is D3 Extended President of the Year!  He's a friend of mine, and I'm voting for him.
