Not basketball, but Calvin has named a new soccer coach.

http://www.calvin.edu/sports/news/comments/ryan-souders-named-calvin-mens-soccer-coach/

Wow, he's young.  But I'm hearing great things about him.  He has a tough act to follow.  But I'm rooting for him to be a great success with a program that is now among the nation's elite in D3.

Has anyone heard if Calvin has hired someone to replace Ricky Shilts?

I've heard a few names thrown out there but nothing concrete. The few I've heard have been on the...ahem..less experienced side?

Like Ricky was when he was hired.

I was taking him to mean experience as a player.

Or like the rest of Calvin's coaching staff besides KVS...

With the topic of other sports, am I correct that Hope is going to win the Commissioner's Cup?  Hope had a lead after the winter sports and appears to have fared quite well during these spring sports so far that are about to end.

Haven't seen this posted yet - Hope did indeed win the Commissioner's Cup, by the widest margin in history (31 points).

The margin was a record......Calvin should try harder. ;)

Note #3 Adrian and #5 Albion.  A couple years ago, maybe more now I forget, I was tipped off to watch for this.  We all know the story of Adrian's Pres pushing athletics and that's been evident in their MIAA Cup success the last couple years.  I was warned that Albion would start to suffer for an entirely different reason and sure enough the usual #3 program in the league has started its backslide.

I heard about this a couple weeks ago, still trying to comprehend this.  My gut reaction then was this is a terrible idea, but we'll see I'd like some more information.

The tournament schedule would be something crazy like
(possible week off before the first round)
First and Second Round
Sweet 16 games only
Quarterfinals/Semi's in Salem, Virginia
Final   one or two weeks later in Atlanta..........where no D3 fans will be able to find reasonable hotel rates.   Less than 2,000 people is the spacious Phillips Arena.  Which means they don't even get to play on the Final Four Floor used by the D1's over at Georgia Dome.  What's the point?

Yeah. They were supposed to announce this during the D-I Final Four but it didn't happen. We had an interview with Dan Dutcher on video from Salem and it's pretty dated by this point, so we're going to have to start over.

I agree that it sounds bad for D3 overall, but the idea of Sweet 16/Semis in Salem is intriguing. That would be a chance to see a lot of quality teams at once.
