I heard that the Calvin football decision has been deferred for a year.  The new president will have a year to decide what to do.

That makes me feel better about the final outcome being a "yes" than I had felt previously.

sac

When you've put it off for over 100, whats another year?

I have not heard it from an offical source yet, but this is absolutely the best decision the college could have made at this time.   At his point neither side won, nor lost, and the new pres. doesn't have to live with a decision he wasn't involved in making.  From my recent time on campus the two sides were pretty evenly divided, and without the support of the pres. it would fail.  In fact Byker predicted at a dinner a week ago it would fail.
Calvin is taking it's time deciding about football, while others dither about a new pres. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Saw an early copy of the Spring Arbor University 2012-13 schedule and it showed them playing in the Russ DeVette Tournament 12-7 and 12-8.

SAU should be pretty good next year, graduate one player and have a pretty good quartet of Fr. coming in (or so I'm led to believe)
Saw SAU last year--Bellamy (SR) and Hogans (JR) are returning guards who are talented and explosive.  Hogans had a spectacular putback dunk attempt of the variety not seen in the MIAA and Bellamy can shoot it from deep and beat you off the bounce.  Definitely the strength of their team and well worth the price of admission.  Had some big bodies but not much of an offensive presence inside when I saw them.  Their incoming class appears to be guard dominated...

Maybe the SAU and Calvin GM's could orchestrate a salary cap friendly swap to bolster SAU's frontcourt and strengthen Calvin's backcourt? ;)

Hope played @SAU last year, handled them rather easily considering it was Hope's second and something like SAU's 9th game.   http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/1112/1119hosa.htm

there's rumor afoot of a potential transfer to the land of lincoln and fairbanks...a certain cougar sportsman who was nearly fitted for his wooden shoes two summers previous.

this could add options to the looming frontcourt dilemma, what with the aforementioned recruit signings...

I believe he scored 16 points vs. Hope for the Cougars last year.  He is a high flyer that can change a game in a hurry.

Hoopsville did an interview with D3 VP Dan Dutcher about the Alanta(sic) thing.  Didn't really confirm much of anything except that I have a greater disdain for "executive speak".

Sounds like a "here's what we're going to do, so hey D3 tournament committee get it done" kind of deal.  Actual details still to be worked out.

We were graced by the presence of some head coaches Saturday at the 11th annual Camp Darryl/Bankhoops.com Classic -- Alma, Albion, Calvin.

Any guesses as to which players the MIAA coaches were targeting?

Hadn't heard where he was headed, but had heard that Mr. Byers and SAU were "parting ways".   If a free agent like this ends up a Flying Dutchman, does Hope forfeit a pick in next year's transfer draft? ;D

Not unless the money to take care of him dries up.

yeah its a good thing Calvin's last trip to the Final Four didn't include transfers like Dan Aultman or Ricky Shilts.

and thank heavens their last two MIAA Championship roster didn't include a transfer like Trent Salo.

That would be hypocritical.  ::)

Not to pick nits, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't think Ricky Shilts transferred to Calvin.  I thought he spent his full 2 years at KVCC, graduated, and then enrolled at Calvin as a junior.  Not the same thing as someone transferring part way through a 4-year program, IMHO.

According to the NCAA, JC graduates are transfers.
