Unfortunately most of our MIAA schools are located in media markets that are just a little too small to be noticed.  I'm confident these kinds of things happen frequently, we just don't get to read about them as often as we should.

I too am sick and tired of all those D3 student-athletes in New York, Boston, and LA hogging the media coverage of their community volunteering efforts.

I really don't know why you felt this post needed this kind of response.  Outside of Hope and Calvin coverage in the Grand Rapids Press and the occasional Kzoo coverage in the Kalamazoo Gazette the rest of the MIAA really doesn't benefit from even medium sized markets.   Adrian, Albion, Alma, Olivet and Trine receive almost no coverage outside of their immediate hometown coverage if that even exists.  So when those special interest type stories do arise they frequently never make it beyond the pages of their local paper or in the case of the article I linked, beyond even their own web page.
Kind of curious just what you are trying to say?  I read that above post as an attempt at a joke.  Seems to me either your comment was an over reaction to a misperception on your part; or you were just playing along with the joke.  I lean towards misperception.

I read it as a dig, and given the usual tenor of this board, its what I would expect.  Unfortunate, but predictable.  If that wasn't the intent, then I missed it as well.

If I had to start a team with any single player on this list, I'd take Overway.  But I think Calvin's backcourt top to bottom is the best in class going into the season.

He has three years of eligibility remaining so I think it is perfectly acceptable to classify him as such with the understanding that it is in no way indicative of the academic progress he has made in two years as a student.

By points, Trine's combo of Jackson, Knight and Kent is about 31 points per game.  Albion, Adrian and Calvin's group are slightly below that.*

I guess I would be more than a little shocked to see him use all his yrs of eligibility which is why I'm more probe to consider him a junior.

I don't remember the source but I seem to recall Brink in an interview (maybe on knightslappy's blog?) stating that using that last year of athletic eligibility was a possibility.  I may be wrong on that and just confusing details from some other story but that's what I vaguely recall (or maybe that is just wishful thinking through maroon colored glasses).  If someone can confirm that recollection it'd be appreciated.

I'd be interested to know what you base that opinion on considering his actual words say this:

"As of right now though, I definitely want to use that fifth year."

Knightmare is correct.

Also will point out, Trine was in the top 10 for turnover margin in D3.  Their trio of guards surely had a little something to do with that.

Here's some metrics on the players listed. Points per weighted shot, turnover rate, and assist rate. Numbers from 2011-12 season, except for the players with the asterisk where I used 2010-11. Sorted by scoring efficiency.

The "least reliable" number is probably turnover rate. It's difficult to calculate possessions on an individual basis, so it's really something like "turnovers per event that got you recorded in the box score".

Assist rate is percentage of teammates' field goals a player assisted on while he was on the court.
