Yikes! You'd think that Alma would photoshop in a few fans, at least.

added Alma, the Scots play a nice non-conference schedule including what looks like probably 7 in-region games.   Overall the schedule strength compared to last year is probably a  little better, maybe even a lot better.  They drop 2 D2 games in favor of D3 opponents and lose the IU Northwest/Kuyper anchors and replace with D3's.  Even the two NAIA's is an upgrade over a couple of last years NAIA's.

I only see a couple games where Alma's probably a favorite, getting 3 or 4 non-con wins might be troublesome if things start off shaky.

Last year Alma played 4 in-region non-conference games so getting to 7 this year is a lift for the whole league for comparative scores, sos indexes and stuff.  It will really help that Alma should have strong sos opponents like BW and Capital.

PS Saw a young woman at the corner store, probably college aged wearing an Alma t-shirt with Alma shorts not even a half hour before seeing this.

Looks nice, but I did first wonder why the website address was Goal Mascots.   ;D

Hah! Now I will never look at that URL the same way again. :)

Here's another name for Calvin's 2012 recruiting class:

Kai Foday of Canterbury High School in Ft. Wayne, IN (that would make him a teammate of Austin Hatch). I'm told that's class 1A which is the smallest in Indiana.

He's listed at 6-3, and the only description I've heard of him is "raw".

Also, I believe Brandon Martin of Caledonia is a Knight. I've not seen/heard anything about him.

Athletic build, got decent springs and a nice jumper. Definitely is a slasher and does a pretty good job handling the ball. I would say he's a poor man's Tom Snikkers. If he works on his jumper and plays team ball, he could definitely be a quality contributor. Strong kid, saw him play 2 yrs ago at the Calvin over night camp. He and Jordan Daly were the two best players there and now they're both playin for Calvin, go figure. Maybe if UofM doesn't work out, he can convince Hatch to become a night  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Olivet's schedule is now complete:  http://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2012-13/schedule

Looks like they've added a game with Illinois Tech.  Also their opponents for the Mt. St. Joseph Tournament(actually a classic) will be Mt. St. Joseph and Thomas More.  DePauw is the 4th team.  Olivet will have 4 in-region non-conference games and with Bethany, Baldwin Wallace, Mt. St. Joseph and Thomas More they should have a pretty decent strength of schedule.

For anyone interested...MHSAA district assignments released:  www.mhsaa.com/portals/0/documents/BBB/13tournament.pdf

Confusing but the first team listed is the host site.  I'll be looking forward to that A Quarterfinal in Lansing between Grand Rapids Christian and Muskegon. ;)

Illinois Tech is currently an NAIA school, but they're in the application process to join D3. This upcoming year with be their "exploratory year". If all goes according to plan (and they continue the process), they'll be full D3 members in 2017-18. Looks like they would eventually be in-region for MIAA schools (except Alma and Adrian) as well.

IIT is reviving its men's basketball program after disbanding it three years ago. The long-term intention of the IIT administration is to get the Scarlet Knights out of the NAIA and into D3, and reviving the men's basketball program gets the school back up to the minimum of six men's teams that D3 requires.

Of more immediate concern to Olivet is the fact that there is a news item on the IIT men's basketball page announcing open tryouts. That's never a good sign. Methinks that the Scarlet Knights will be a walkover for the Comets this year.

Rats! Beaten by three minutes!

If I'm beating out Mr. Sager on random-ish factoids, I may need to step back and re-evaluate my life choices.  :D

Oh, and IIT is the Scarlet Hawks, not the Scarlet Knights. I must've come down with a case of rutgersitis today.

I'm sure these names have been thrown out there already (and hopefully I'm not mistaken on any of these), but looks like Hope should have a pretty solid class if all these kids show up this weekend as expected:

Ben Gardner- Carmel, IN
Brock Benson -- Hinsdale South, IL
Alex Eidson -- Grand Haven
Matt Van Dyk - Imlay City
Zach Dreyer -- Zeeland W.
Jordan Denham --Southfield Lathrup
Jon Maas - Holland Chr.
Sam Otto - Wheaton No.
