From what I see, the College of Faith is an online only institution.  Total cost for a 4 year degree is $396.00 (registration fees only - tuition is actually free).  I think that's just a little less than an MIAA institution.     :o

So if you are an online only college, are your practices also online :)

So Hope is playing Faith. I trust that Charity will be on the schedule in due time.

Finally!  It's starting to sound a lot like basketball season in here!   ;D

I think this is College of Faith's first year of athletics, which consists of a football and basketball team.  The football team lost its first game 78-0 to Arkansas-Monticello and its 2nd game (4 weeks later) to Concordia-Alabama 48-6.

College of Faith doesn't appear to have any national affiliation like NCAA, NAIA or NCCAA and are cyber located in Memphis, Tenn.

My question is this, is this game even going to count?

My favorite part of the College of Faith "site" comes from the contact page:

Maybe they'll look into scheduling William & Mary. Probably best to schedule William one week and Mary the next.

Great question. Generally the NCAA's rules on this are pretty lenient: varsity program at a four-year institution. But playing only 13 games? Not sure if there's a lower limit on what defines "varsity" for the NCAA.

The MIAA has a nice addition to its website to commemorate 125 of existence.

I clicked hoping the addition was "functionality".  It wasn't.

Come on, that's not fair. The site actually is slightly more functional than it was 125 years ago.

Please don't knock College of Faith.  I heard they already know how to broadcast their basketball games online.

We're in the top 3 (mentioned only 180 times in the NIV) - I'm good with that!

Great question. Generally the NCAA's rules on this are pretty lenient: varsity program at a four-year institution. But playing only 13 games? Not sure if there's a lower limit on what defines "varsity" for the NCAA.

Did a little further research.  First of all, College of Faith will have no bearing on NCAA tournament selection so whether they count as a game in the NCAA's eyes is completely inconsequential.  It really is going to be an issue of what is Hope's overall record as the year continues.

Deep within the Championship handbook is this section which I think applies.

For NCAA Team-championship selection purposes, competition is countable only when the teams played are varsity intercollegiate teams of four-year, degree-granting institutions that conduct a majority of their competition in that team sport against varsity intercollegiate teams of United States four-year degree granting institutions.  Competition against service teams, professional teams, semi-professional teams, amateur teams, two-year colleges and club teams shall be excluded.

I've highlighted the important parts.   College of Faith has 13 games on their schedule as of now, seven of those are against NJCAA or two-year programs, meaning College of Faith does not play a majority of its games vs four years schools.  Thus, if I understand this correctly, unless College of Faith's schedule changes, this game should not count for Hope.

Until I hear differently, I think this is the right assumption.
