Trine has already played their first exhibition vs Windsor University, losing 84-68.  What is the rule as far as when teams are permitted to practice and play?  I did not think that NCAA rules permitted teams to practice yet, much less to be actually playing exhibition games.  What's the deal?

Perhaps since they made a trip to America's Hat it is considered like those summer team trips to places like Europe.

Yes, there are exceptions to the offseason rule which permit teams who are participating in international competition to practice (and play games) ahead of the usual start date.

Trine's schedule left out a key word on their Oct 1 date against Western University.....'Ontario'.  Things went better for Trine in their second exhibition game.

I offer this link only as proof, the article itself has very few details of the game from Trine's perspective at all.

Western Ontario plays a couple or more American schools every year, 2 years ago they scored an exhibition at Kentucky.  Last year they beat Transylvania, lost to Wittenberg, Nazareth and Rochester.  10-19 overall in their Canadian division but since I have no internal gauge of Canadian collegiate basketball, I have no idea what that means.  Roster height wise, they look very D3'ish.

In Canadian college basketball you're allowed to play for five years. Not five years of eligibility, as is the case in D3; five years of actually playing. It evens out the cross-border competition a bit. It doesn't mean so much when a Canadian team plays one of the big boys from D1 or D2, because Canadian basketball is a dramatically lesser product than it is in the States, and the Canucks therefore get their toques handed to them whenever they play a D1 or D2 team. But when you're talking about a major Canadian university playing a D3 team, the extra season allowed for Canadian players can be a factor.

Yes, but those are metric years.  The exchange rate has been worse with this economy.

Actually, I think that you can get away with playing ten years of college basketball up there in Canuckistan ... five years in English and five years in French.

To help them out those faux-frenchies:

Woo Hoo! A l'ouest de l'Ontario se rendent compte que Steve Nash a encore six ans d'éligibilité
