The Preseason Top 25 is out: http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/men/2012-13/preseason

Hope ranked #7, though Calvin is more likely to finish at #7 than Hope (IMCO).

Sure, Calvin is much more likely than Hope to end up #7...in the league.   ;D ;D ;D 8-) ??? :D ;)

What is it with October 17th ?

Practice has started, basketball is in the air, yet (most) rosters haven't been posted, and we're antsy as all get-out for things to get rolling so we can see what we're working with and what we're up against.  Ides of October indeed.   ;D

Can't wait for the ever important "average height of all rosters" discussions! (These, by the way, should be done on a per-minute basis).

That makes sense but I don't think we should include "preseason" games, only MIAA contests.

A Calvin roster has not been posted, but (unofficial) indications are that (freshmen) Austin Parks and Jordan Daley have made the team.

New indications are that final decisions have not yet come. I should probably just keep my mouth shut and wait on these things.  :-X

Knight2Day

I'll put money down that the Knights finish 23-6, win the league, make the tourny and lose in the second round...and then KS will claim that KVS has led a team bursting at the seams with talent back to prominence (though this team has enough talent to bring home hardware come March..though they wont, won't even make the elite 8). It'll be a "successful year" though...KS just make sure you leave enough Kool-Aid for the rest of the delusional Calvin fans.

I feel really sorry for you that your disappointment has turned you so bitter that you feel the need to take it out on others that can still find enjoyment in following their favorite team. That's a real shame.

While I agree with Ziggy's comments completely, I would very much like to take you up on this bet.  Just how much money is it that you are willing to put down?  Name the amount and I'm in!

Olivet has a "preliminary" roster up:

http://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2012-13/roster

Garner Small is one of the Goshen refugees

Dewayne Thurmond 5-10 is a JUCO from Kirkland CC
Derek Pyles 6-3 is a JUCO from Glen Oaks
DaunTrell Hill is a JUCO from Illinois Central(?)
Rodrick Brady appears to have graduated in 2009, but I find no JUCO affiliation

John Der is impossible to look up because the internet thinks everything remotely spelling John Deere must be John Deere.

It does not surprise me Olivet went the JUCO route as everything pretty much imploded last year and then they fired Gifford.  I actually expected the retention to be worse.  Olivet will be almost a total unknown for awhile.

This is a veiled "Hope/Matt Neil can't win in March" crack, isn't it? Well done. +K.

Alma's roster is out: http://goalmascots.com/sports/mbkb/2012-13/roster
Also Trine (which had been reported ealier): http://www.trine.edu/athletics/mens_sports/basketball/roster/

With the Alma roster being all Jrs & Srs, I'm wondering if it's the real thing or just a "carry-forward" from last year.

I wonder if Hargraves is putting an emphasis on winning sooner rather than later.  He has had six stops already in his collegiate coaching career, and I'm not so sure that the head job at Alma is his ultimate career objective.  There has been plenty of speculation on this board about the length of rope that KVS has at Calvin, especially given the recent mediocre seasons (by Calvin standards) and the timing of the transition to the new college president.  Is it too much of a reach to think that Hargraves may want to post a very solid W-L record in 2012-13 by loading up the varsity roster with the most experienced players, even at the expense of development of FR/SO players, thus putting him in prime position to throw his hat in the ring if/when there is an opening for head coach at his alma mater?

Or maybe I'm just reading in to things too much since they have added a bunch of FR/SO listings to their roster and it's clear the final varsity roster hasn't been posted yet...

hoopdreams

Hypothetically speaking.....Calvin falters, KVS leaves either on his own or not, a top level job opens up and Calvin hires an nomad assistant coach with a recent sub/near .500 record in the MIAA? (let's be realistic, that's what Alma will be).  I'm guessing they will have their pick of highly established, successful coaches to choose from, unless Calvin decides to give it to their long-time assistant
