I love that the mobile version of MIAA.org says, under the score tab, that "there are no games scheduled today".

Mobile version of miaa.org is AWFUL

I'm sure it is. The MIAA's bizarre outdated requirements for its site probably don't play nicely with modern mobile templates.

Along those lines, I'm not fond of getting the MIAA website framing my boxscores.

Gotta love having a +87 scoring margin over a weekend and finishing 1-1.

Hope vs North Central

Let's begin with talking about the gym. I didn't have high expectations for it, but they managed to fall short of them. Immediately the Dow Center came to mind in trying to compare it to another facility. And by the Dow Center, I am not talking about the basketball courts, I mean the pool. It was bloody hot in there and the stands were either fold out chairs, bleachers you would see at an elementary school soccer field, or stands that were up in the rafters a quarter mile from the court. Some of this may be a tad bit of exaggeration, but I can't remember to well. I was kind of close to passing out from heat stroke.

Looking at the game, the marquee moment in the game was Snuggerud fouling. For people that have known me. I have been a proponent of the sit the guy with 2 fouls unless you NEED him. In this circumstance, my theory was proven right. If Hope doesn't play Snuggerud at all until halftime, it would be hard to imagine the score changing at all. Then he plays the entire second half, both offensively and defensively instead of the insane offense for defense moves for the last 7 minutes of the game or so. (Which was only possible because there was a whistle every time down the court).

As for this Hope team. I think I was pleasantly surprised by many things on Saturday, especially without two very important players in Snuggerud and Wittenbach. This Hope team was missing a guy that could create his own shot and one that could draw the defense out with knock down shooting. Also, we played a team that was extremely strong against our greatest strengths. North Central is a big athletic team. Its not going to be often this year that a team will be able to match the size and depth of this Hope frontcourt rotation.

In all, I think there are a bunch of positives to be taken from this game. Snuggerud in his brief minutes looks to have improved (giggity). Overway has improved his outside jumper. NVA didn't get into foul trouble until late in the game, and looked to have a few new post moves. Brock Benson looks like a future star, and his defense is pretty stellar. Caleb Byers will be able to put up points. And lastly, this teams defense is pretty good. There will be many blocked shots this year, and not a whole lot of offensive boards given up. So, count me excited as the road to Salem/Atlanta  :o begins.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Gotta love having a +60 scoring margin over a weekend and finishing 2-0 even more. 8-)

There seem to be some minor criticisms on this board about miaa.org.

I'll change the tune on that and mention one new wonderful feature this year: the "enhanced statistics" link, which introduces some new stats and makes all stats sortable by total count, per game, or per minute.  You can also click on individual players and see how they rank in the league in all the statistical categories.

If anyone wants an early look at Cornerstone, Tuesday night they play at Davenport.  Maybe the 2 best teams in the WHAC.

Big week for Cornerstone.........@ Davenport, @ Hope, vs Calvin.  Have to imagine they'll be primed and ready.

Eric Lewis of Adrian wins player of the week. Hard to argue with that.

Interesting that Trine has made their Akron-Wayne game a "non-countable" game on their website.  (changed sometime after this post, guess it counts.)
http://www.trine.edu/athletics/mens_sports/basketball/schedule/

Ian Jackson had 33 in Trine's first game, my first thought when seeing the POW was that surely Jackson had a good night in a 100-75 victory Saturday over Akron-Wayne. No boxscore to be found.  http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/1213/1117traw.htm

So the precedent has been set.....Hope people.
So the precedent has not been set.....but c'mon Hope peole

From the 2010 NCAA Championship Handbook:

QuoteFor NCAA team-championship selection purposes, competition is countable only when the teams played are varsity intercollegiate teams of four-year, degree-granting institutions that conduct a majority of their competition in that team sport against varsity intercollegiate teams (see Constitution 3.2.4.4) of United States four-year, degree-granting institution. Competition against service teams, professional teams, semiprofessional teams, amateur teams, two-year colleges and club teams shall be excluded.

I don't know much about Wayne Akron, but I think they should count (I believe they're four-year and play mostly four-year schools). College of Faith should not count (don't they play a ton of JC's? I can't get their schedule to open).

But I think whether or not a school wants to include it on their stat sheet is another matter.

I'm not sure College of Faith even qualifies on the basis of being a "four-year, degree-granting institution". I suppose they do in that they can provide four years of course material and hand out a piece of paper at the end but they are not accredited. What's stopping me from doing the same and calling myself a college?

College of Faith has 13 games on their schedule, 7 against Junior Colleges.
