Oh, oh, the Calvin/Finlandia game has a bald official.  Is it him?

It's all Calvin...73-41 halfway through the final stanza.

The hay . . . .

Looking like a summer rec league game now.  Not much defense on either end.

103-62, final score.

Overtime final from Holland:

Spring Arbor  77
Hope           73

Hope loses for the second time this year at DeVos. Looks like turnovers were an issue as the Flying Dutchmen committed 20 of them. Anyone know why Holwerda didn't play? Coach's decision?

I'm not sure what to think of this, after Tuesday I was under the impression Spring Arbor hadn't been playing well.  Bellamy and Hogans are two good athletic guards and Hope had difficulty with them today that is for sure.

Bellamy 32, Hogans 17 for SAU
Snuggerud 23, Seiler 14

Too many turnovers and not enough defensive stops.  SAU a 33% 3 point shooting team goes 8-13 in the game.  I'm going to bet Ryan Cottingham says something like 'this is the best we've played in some time' in the post-game.

PS How can North Park University have live video streaming and Hope College not??

Bob, is that a shot at NPU?

Not at all.  Just alluding to the fact that the Hope basketball program has a lot more resources than North Park's program.

That's true. The crackerbox would make a nice coat room for DeVos Arena.

SAC, your blog post on the Hope v. Covenant game was excellent, and reminds me to check your blog more often.

You predicted that Hope would play more zone against Spring Arbor, and right you were . . . apparently preferring to take their chance on some open 3's in order to neutralize Spring Arbor's guard speed.  What a different defense from Friday night's man-to-man trapping defense (which was very exciting to watch--creating 26 turnovers and many fast breaks, at the cost of occasional easy Covenant baskets).

Although Hope has lost 4 games, each of those losses were nail biters.  With Steve Wittenbach and Grant Neil now practicing and apparently available to play in games to come, and with this young team gaining experience and growing together, I'm optimistic.

Josh was already in the process of already being phased out, if that could even be possible. Maybe he isn't 100% but after 3 years of little return, was this year going to be vastly different?  To be clear to the1 or 2 posters who keep bringing up GN's name...he will have zero impact on this team in game situations.  Someone had to say it, everybody was thinking it.

Pretty boy Floyd is wishing he hadn't ducked and avoided Manny now, HUGE payday....poof!
